I Am DESPERATE!!! Starting Over with Potty Training? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have had Bella for a few months now. She is 6 months old. When I got her at 10 weeks, she would go potty on her wee-wee pads 99% of the time. I thought...wow, what a smart little girl

Now, my entire house has turned into her bathroom!!!

I think it is my fault because I spoiled her, and let her have too much freedom.

Tell me you guys, did I ruin her????? Is there hope??????

My dilemas are that I work full time, and wanted to have her just trained on the pee pads. She is gated in the kitchen when I am at work and at bed time. After she potties when I get home she is allowed free roam of the house. We are also moving out of NY to NC in about 6 weeks, so I need some help fast. I don't want her ruining my new carpets in NC! I will also have alot more free time in NC because I am not going to work and stay home with my twin boys.

So, I am desperate. I need all of you smart YTers help, experience, and guidance.

We got Ariel when she was 10 weeks old as well, and she was used to going on the pee pads already. At 6 months old now, she goes on her pads 95% of the time. When we got her, she got a small portion of the bedroom; as she got older and knew where she needed to potty, her "space" increased. She now gets to roam the entire upstairs, but I still don't give her free roam of the entire house. Not till she knows where to go 100% of the time.

Not much help, but good luck with potty training her. It's so frustrating when they're this young, but it's worth the patience

Unfortunatly, she is taking some steps back, as they ALL do at her age.

You must start at square one again with the training, but hopefully she will get back on track fast. The part about her being contained when no one is home is GREAT! But when you are home, you must also not let her had free acces to everything, until she is back on track. Also, maybe a really good potty treat only given for good potty is a good idead.

This happened to Roxy and TJ too. I had to block off the rest of the house when I was in the kitchen, I kept them in there with me. Then when watching TV, I made sure they didn't go to far. It didn't take too long at least 10 days to get them back on the pee pad training.

They had freedom when they were 1.5 years old.

Yes giving them too much territory is not a good idea. Just because a puppy is trained in one room of the house does not mean that they are trained in every room.

Go back to basics, with either crate training or keeping her confined to a small area unless you are able to sit and watch her every second. Mistakes are a good thing if you catch them in the act. But if you don't catch them then just clean it up and let it go.

Thanks for the advice. I thought it was just me and that I ruined her training! SO, I will try to contain her the best I can. Where on LI are you? As I mentioned we are moving soon. I will miss LI, but it is way to expensive here for us. Hopefully, we will do good in NC!

I'm having this same problem

.. Before She would go on her pad even if she was n the middle of playin she would run to it.. now she islike ok this is a good spot

... then before bed i try to make her go all she does is sit and and lay on it i have to take her out side and after 2min of stareing at me then she will go... but when im at work and she is in her area (my hallway) she goes on her pad everytime

..

Well hopefully we can both get some good advice!! Apparently, this is common on yorkies that are this old...well 6 months. I am going to try and confine her better. She is no longer aloud to roam free....awww she is not going to be happy!

yes let hope... Mi is only 12weeks so i wonder if that normal too

.. may have to do that too.. hope we find something that works

Aww, she is still just a baby. I think confinement works best at that age. Bella was so good at that age. She just started doing this about a month ago. It is hard not to spoil them, but we have to stay strong

By confinement, do you guys mean to a single room? Or to a ex-pen?

My problems are similar to yours. Franklin is about 13 weeks old, and I'm a little lost. The only time he will go on the potty pad in the bathroom is in the morning when he wakes us up. After that, I take him out after eating, drinking, heavy play, and jus tabout any time I see him sniffing. He NEVER goes. He runs around, lays down, and sits and stares at me.

When he's in his play pen and I'm gone, however, he goes on the potty pad EVERY TIME.

Help?
