Default How to control or stop barking

Hello, my Yorkie is 4 yrs old and he barks at every noise he hears or anyone that walks in the door to the point where I have to keep him around me in the house or he'll die from anxiety. I have tried a high pitched noise collar with no luck. I give him plenty of water, food and a shelter over his head and he repays me back by barking at me all the time it's literally driving me nuts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance

It can be controlled but after 4yrs of barking it will take patience.
Try putting coins in a can and leave the can where you can reach it
when needed. When your dog barks shake the can and say NO BARKING.
You may have to do this 20times a day for weeks but the message
will penatrate eventually. When he knows it's unexceptable behavior
he should stop. If you sitting watching TV and he barks you must get
up and shake that can. You can't do it sometimes and sometimes not do
it. It will confurse the dog. He has to put the noise with the barking in order
to understand it's not allowed.
When people come into the house put him on a leash to control him.
He's only excited and does not know it's wrong difference. Buddy still
jumps and barks from excitment when visitors come. I just let him do
his thing and in minutes he's laying down somewhere. I have used the
can with great success.
Good luck and have patience. Remember it's been 4yrs of barking so
it may take time to correct the problem but it should work out.

IM going to try it again...i just posted that the pennies didnt work with barking but you are right about being consistent...i wasnt doing it enough which is probably why it didnt work. It was wearing me out though...shaking the can every time someone comes close to the house!!!

Gracie barks at every little sound and at my family when they come in the house (she never barks at me...hehe). I used the Cesar Millan method--I began stretching my hand out and putting it toward her face and saying "NO," but I do not yell it out. It's amazing how well it works---it's like she realizes I mean business. Now, all I have to do is reach my hand out with my palm out and she knows she'd better stop barking.

Layla's babysitter has a barker and she just got a citronella collar which sprays a smell that dogs hate every time she barks.. the dog has completley stopped barking and she has been using it for 2 weeks... at least 10 hours a day...

Tell me more about this? How do you do this when they are running toward the door because they think someone is home?

Same concept as the can, but I use a spray bottle with water. This works for me!

Someone told me that they used a loud horn for their 3 dogs, just wondering if this will hurt their ears, he said it worked wonders for their dogs. I was going to purchase one tomorrow but was wondering first if anyone has heard of this.
