Re-Training to Use Pee Pads?

When Belle was younger, she was trained to go only on pee pee pads, but as she got older, she's been mainly going outside. It's starting to rain quite often here now (more so than last year) and her shoes just aren't enough to keep her dry as she runs over puddles . And, she will NOT go outside with a raincoat.

Anyway, I want to get her to using her pads inside again...just for winter. Problem is, she'll actually hold her pee/poop for HOURS until we let her out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i'm having a similar problem. it's been really cold here and we have some snow/ice on the ground. Zoe wants no part of it and she's been holding it alot but then she'll sneak off and find a quiet spot. I have pee pads down now but she seems to have forgotten how to use them since she was so good about going outside, I haven't had any down in months till now.

What worked for me was putting the pad by the back door where Lady goes to bark to go out. At first she would bark and carry on and hold it as long as she could, but when she couldn't hold it any longer, she'd go. If you are right there, give her a lot of praise and a treat.

Lady does not do rain. If I'd take her out too soon after it stopped raining and a drop fell off the trees on her, she'd would just sit down and refuse to move.

I'm in the same boat - Since my husband died I work now and moving to an apartment so I'm starting basic Wee Pad training. It's confusing for them to switch from a yard to the pad so I don't push the pads when I'm home -

but.... IF they go on one when I'm out - I throw a HUGE Parade complete with clapping and The Bootie Dance

Just yesterday when I got home from work I was greeted with the CUTEST little turd on the Wee Pad - you have no idea how that made my day - usually it's hidden in the living room on CARPET lol !

This is a great question and something I was wondering about too! I'm hoping to get a puppy in the not-too-distant future but wasn't sure what would be the best way to go...I will be moving back "home" to my parent's house and they have a big outdoor pen that they used to use for their doberman to do his business (they never kept him out there, it was just used for going potty). So, it's an ideal spot for the dog to learn to go...HOWEVER, in 2 years or so, we are planning on moving back east to Ontario where there are cold winters, etc. and I will likely be purchasing a condo then, so I don't know if I would want the dog to go potty outdoors or pee pad/litterbox indoors.

Would it be easier to train it to go indoors from the beginning or can they be re-trained as adults? Hope I'm not hijacking your thread, just thought since it's more or less the same question I might as well ask it here

If shes ok going out I would put a little raincoat on her, and let her go out. Just dry her feet off well when she comes back in.

Belle absolutely HATES the rain. It was raining heavily yesterday, and when I let her out to go potty, she wouldn't budge! She just stood there next to me, underneath the patio Putting her in a raincoat doesn't make it any better either ... she gets even more stiff when it's on her.

They do have a spray that you can spray on the pad... its suppose to help them know where to go...

With the pads I sell most people tell me their dogs went on them right away (within minutes of putting them down)! Maybe it is because they are reclaimed and they can smell something we can't, but it seems to work well. The outside is new, but the inside is reclaimed, so maybe that is what attracts them to it.
