Confused avatar help

I downloaded some free shareware and tried creating my own animated avatar... not sure how I did it but I got it????

I previewed it, saved it as a gif file in my pictures. When I open the file and try to save as my new avatar it isn't animated anymore. What am I doing wrong?

Hi

Your file is too large: 98.78kb - dimensions 160 x 160.

The allotted file size for avatars is 48.8kb - dimensions 125 x 125

Pare it down, and it should load.

Nice avatar, though! It can be difficult to get the size down. You have to use fewer pictures of lower quality. I can usually only get 3 or 4 pictures into a full-size avatar. Once you get close, you can reduce the size from 125 pixels to 115 or 100.

What software did you download? I would love to try it.

I didn't know that!! You learn something new every day. I made my very first Avatar today and I just made it 100px x 100px at 72dpi. Someone told me once that that's the size it had to be.

So if I do fewer pics I can make mine at 125px x 125px?

I went to downloads.com and got it. It's called Ulead GIF animator.

Thanks! I hope I can resize it. I am pixel challenged lol! I just don't get the percentage and pixel ratio stuff. If I use photobucket to resize, I'm okay but when I try to do it myself...

I'm going to try to resize but if I delete some of the frames, will that help with the file size so that it will work? TIA.

Yes, as a donating member you can go as big as 125 x 125 providing you stay under the 48.8 kilobytes. So if you're at 52 kilobytes, you can either dump a photo or shrink the size.

Quality has something to do with it too, but I haven't figured that out yet. If I save my images as "low" quality on my mac's iphoto, I can sometimes get more photos into a 125x125 pixel avatar. But "low" quality doesn't equal dpi, so I'm not sure what it means.

Question I give up!

I can get it saved as my avatar but it still isn't animated. Even put it in photobucket and tried but still no animation. Anyone have a clue what I did wrong? I resized everything so I think that's okay.

Thanks.
