Jeanie you had mentioned about your computer not sitting on your stomach....dh has "table-mates" in his man cave. They are adjustable.....not decorative by any means but might be worth considering.

Edit: available in some magazines, as seen on tv, Walmart etc.

Yes, that's a great idea - using an aid like that but wouldn't I still have to lift this hefty 6.5 lb. laptop onto the tablemate and then off again each time I get online? Not sure how it would work. That's what keeps me from getting online as much as I'd like now. With my iffy, tight, super sore neck and still sore abdomen, it's no fun getting on the computer anymore as I have to lift in onto the couch arm so I can type on it. I'm pretty much settled on having to get a tablet when I can afford it or giving up computing until my sore parts - top and middle - are all better. What do you think - is using that tablemate something that requires lifting of this laptop or how does it work? I'd love something that could help me use my present setup without spending more $$$.

Jeanie, would something like a "bedside table" like they have in the hospital, rolls over your bed so you can eat, etc....then you could just roll it to the foot of your bed, and not have to worry about lifting anything up and off the table....they have some smaller tables like that....I have seen them in Harriet Carter catalogs which I get ad nauseum.....that may wok well for you, so you just set your machine on the table and then roll the table back and forth for you to use the computer....

Glad you are on the mend! We used to tell our patients to take it slow and easy....at the end of every day, try to make it a point to have done "just ONE more", exercise/movement/etc...."just one more" each day....one more bite of food, one more glass of beverage, one more step down the hall, one more minute on the treadmill or exercise bike or whatever you are doing....."just one more"......

Cool

I think you would have to lift it one time onto the table, then slide it to you and away from you......as long as you have it set up at the right height.
I don't know if you have to deal with "computer cords" but they too could be managed I would think. Worth looking online....think they are under $50

Wrangling things hat slide back and forth are hard on my neck for some reason. I had a slanted table that the laptop sat on for a while and it hurt my neck to use it so I gave it away - put the laptop on the chest that sits to the left of the couch.

Ah, Judy, until the last couple of years I've always been one of those that does 10 more things every day and my friends and even the doctor has to dial me back. That's always been my trouble - overdoing EVERYTHING I've ever done and fretting if I don't excel. By bedtime, I'd usually fall into bed overly exhausted. But these last 2 years have been a grind and I've gotten what the doctor calls "frail". At least with the cancer gone, the gross fatigue has left! Now I'm just good and tired at the end of the day - not wiped out but I still do and go to excess. Just can't seem to hold any weight or much strength. Got down to 112 in the hospital, gained to 116 week B4 last and was back to 113 last Thursday! Doc says I'm frailer than he likes for 5'4"but said give it a while longer and I should begin to gain weight/strength. Lifting Tibbe is wearing me out, not pumping me up - haha. He's had a sore leg or paw and can't jump at all and we've got to get him well so I can get well! I seem to take 10,000 steps a day going up and down the hall of this house, in and out of rooms and out into the yard and all of it sometimes on two canes as now my left hip needs replacing and the right one was never right - needs a re-do. Seems the bone didn't grow in around the nodes or things on the implant. So there's that. Still yucky orthopedic times but am thankful no cancer treatment though I've still got to see the colon oncologist for the final say on that. Tibbe keeps me smiling and laughing out loud every day though. A Yorkie is always the best medicine - if I could just keep this one of mine well!

Hey, there, Betty! How ARE you? I think about and pray about you a lot! My 35" ST is standing here in the den all dressed in frilly pink. I hide her when anyone comes but drag her out of the front spare bedroom and down the hall and into the den the rest of the time! haha and on one or two canes - that's not easy! Still have all of yours? What is it - 3 of them - the Dolls Dreams and Loves one and two Ideals?!?!

Daddy had cancer surgery and during his recoup period, his appetite was not good...but he loved malts that I made him using ice cream (Blue Bell Butter Pecan, his favorite!) and Ensure....he would drink those about 6 times a day, plus whatever little solid meals we could get down him..... and he got a lot of calories in a 24 hour period....as you know, your body needs those calories to rebuild muscle and tissue.......maybe you would like those malts, maybe use different flavors to your liking....and they have sooooo many different brands now.....any additional calories for tissue building is much needed! Daddy couldnt stand the smell of meat cooking after he had his surgery and his bout with cancer treatment......so he had to drink those supplements to load calories into a mostly veggie and fruit diet....and banannas!! Bananna splits til the world looked level!!! Bless your heart....I wish I could think of things that would absolutely set you on fire, energize your brain and your appetite and help you manage your day to day activities of living and really be of some value to you......I am just thrilled you are back, and with your precious little Tibbe......

I used to drink a lot of Ensure before the surgery and when I had a lot of nausea but since the surgery, it seems to cause gas while regular food doesn't. Can't understand why the change? Had a lot of problems eating regular food before but now it actually gives me less problems then Ensure or milky drinks! Mostly I just want to drink sweet iced tea rather than eat. Can't believe that is ME typing that sentence but it's true right now. Can't seem to get my old appetite restarted but doc tells me it will eventually engage as I'm eating enough at present and not starving myself or anything. Sure don't want to lose muscle mass or cardiac muscle so I eat 2 or 3 meals a day, usually a small breakfast and then follow-up meals consisting of almost always a leafy green salad, tomato, one or two veggies and a meat and sometimes half a slice of bread or role - it's just I can't eat a lot except the salad. A little later after lunch or dinner or both, I'll have some sliced fruit - usually cantaloupe, honey dew melon, pineapple, a few strawberries, blue or raspberries, etc. or eat half a banana. I buy those containers of freshly cut fruit combo boxes at the grocery store and fresh bananas when they are good, which they aren't always. I usually get a hamburger or something at Whopper Burger if I pass by it - love those things but only eat 1/3 or so, some fries. Tibbe just pines for a bite but I give him extra special treats made from his Hill's Rx. food and he seems satisfied, bless his heart. He doesn't seem to hold it against me that I won't share my highly-scented food with him.

I'm sorry your dad had to go through so much suffering with his cancer! Such a dreadful disease!!!!! I'm always hesitant to ask but hope he made it. You sure did your part to help out and that had to help! I pray he's doing well. Dads sure are special!

Jeanie, I went looking online if there were any swivel table mates and there are! Also, couch tables of various heights that can roll away when you want it out of the way. Once you place your laptop there, you wouldn't need to lift it. Just a thought if you google either of them there are many to look at.

I always have you in my prayers to gain strength and able to get your hip done so you can be pain free. Hugs to you!

Sending love and prayers from California to you and Tibbe. Eat little meals for strength and know that you have many friends thinking of you. A day at a time and a prayer for strength, you will get better Jeanie.
