| Desperate Prayers Needed One of my co-workers has a little 4lb Chi girl. One of her children had some sugar-free gum with xylitol and she wasn't aware of it and Ellie got into it. Luckily she woke them up at 3am when she urinated on herself in the bed. They knew immediatley that something was wrong. Shannon (co-worker) called the vet (we use the same vet) and he said to watch her closely, and at this point they didn't know she had gotten into the gum. Within an hour Ellie was having seizures and defecating on herself. The vet had her bring her in right away. Her liver was already failing and they are flushing her system with IV fluids (I think that is what she said) and right now she is holding her own. Please pray for them as she has two boys that are 10 and 12 and they are all distraught right now.

| Just a sad update. Ellie didn't make it and her family is devestated. Please don't allow sugarfree gum into your home. This was such a horrific tragedy.

YT 1000 Club Member | I am so sorry to hear that Ellie has passed. Our vet has never warned against sugar free gum but I know now to be VERY careful. Saying a prayer for Ellie and her family.

| I am so sorry to hear about Ellie. I feel bad for her boys & pray they don't blame themselves. DD & I were just discussing this at the store when she was getting some gum. There really should be a canine warning on those products. How terrible.

| I am so sorry for your friends loss, just breaks my heart. I have had gum banned from my house for many years and recently relaxed the rule. My DD had a friend spend the night and I found wrappers on my playroom floor. I just reinstated the rule,a few weeks ago. I hope that they will find peace from their loss. |

| Oh, my, what a tragedy. That poor little Chi and that poor family! I'm so sorry and my prayers will include them tonight. This stuff should be more widely warned against in the media - many dog owners likely don't have a clue as I didn't before reading about it on YT!!! And I had some doggie breath srpray on hand that had the stuff in it!!! SOOOOO glad I found out in time and I no longer do sugarless gum and such just to be safe. Still, I'm an ingredients reader more than ever just in case. I hope OP will pass along our love and condolences to the family of the little Chi. Poor little one should not have had to go that way.

| Prayers for Ellie's family, this is such a tragic loss. I never knew that this gum was so harmful. Thank you for the warning. I am checking my house because my son always chews this but my dogs are never allowed in his room.

| I'm so very sorry. Love and prayers for the family. I always have a large bag of xylitol in my kitchen cabinet as I use it for my own sweetener. I have known about the dangers of it for quite some time though due to YT and have told everyone in the house "This bag is mine, do not touch it, use it or ever remove it from the top shelf of the cabinet. The smallest amount spilled on the floor WILL kill the dogs!" It is in it's bag sealed in another bag and stays on the very top shelf where no one touches it but me. It makes me so nervous having it here. We never have the gum in the house but the kids have been told the same thing basically about it so they know how dangerous it is. Very right, it should absolutely have a warning on it.
