Default Phoenix Vet recommendations

I moved from California a few months ago, so I am in need of an excellent vet that knows yorkies real well. I am also in need of a groomer that specializes in our breed; I took both our to a nearby Petco and was not satisfied with the results.

If you have anyone in mind please let me know.

Thank you in advance

I live right around the stadium off the 101, so Gilbert would be a little too far. Thank you for the reply though.

Maybe we can get our little dogs to meet each other when the weather gets better to be outside. Our pair is in need of company.

I also remember reading about a yorkie meet a few months ago; do you have any information on this event? When? Where?

I was to 1 YT meet up about a year ago. The last one in February I
was unable to make due to being very sick.

I have a total of 3 yorkies and 2 biewers so I am planning on trying to
put together a get together as soon as the weather cools off. So, I
will privae message you once I know more where dates are concered.

I love my vet...Dr. Eric Roberts of All Creatures Animal Hospital at 40th Street and Greenway. I live in Chandler and I take my yorkies all the way up there because I think he's that good. (Don't ever take your dogs to the 24 Hour Emergency Hospital on Warner and Alma School...they are all about $$$ and not the well being of the animal.)

Hi, this seems not far from where I live. I am at E Thunderbird and 7th St.
I also just moved to Phoenix, and was trying to get a recommendation for a Vet. It seems to be lot's of them around but did not know what to expect.
For How long have you visited Dr. Eric?
my baby is not that "baby" anymore, he will turn 9 this November and is starting to develop some health issues. I suspect a Collapsed Trachea, has coughing episodes like if something is bothering in his throat, some times when he gets excited other just without reason in the middle of the night.
On the other hand I just received his blood test, taken before we moved, he was loosing hair and having skin problems and shows that has Hypothyroidism,..... I really need to try and get a good Vet, loving and not so expensive.
How much should I expect for a Vetīs visit here in Phoenix?

Thanks for any help!

My sister referred me to Dr. Roberts. The reason I started seeing Dr. Roberts was because my 13 year old cat, Nilla, had started walking on a tilt. I consulted my vet (through the practice at the Warner/Alma School Emergency Hospital) at the time and told him I didn't have much money and would like to work out a payment plan. (I had just spend about $1000 on care there for my 14 year old yorkie, Tahoe.) That vet's response was "We are a business and I have to make money." Literally. I said "I don't want you to care for her for free...I suggested working out a payment plan. This man, who had treated my pets for a couple years and who I had paid a buttload of money to responded with "If you can't afford to treat Nilla, perhaps you should consider euthanizing her." That made me sick to my stomach. This is where my sister comes in....

My sister (only 21 at the time) adopted a dog. She lived in an apartment complex. At 7 months, he contracted Parvo (presumably from the feces of all the dogs going to the bathroom in the same place in the complex). She had NO money saved and loved this puppy. She literally had $350 to her name. Now, everyone knows that treating parvo can cost thousands of dollars. She walked into Dr. Roberts office in tears. He told her that he couldn't entirely treat her dog for $350 but that he would show her how to treat his dehydration herself by administering her own fluids. (Most dogs don't die from Parvo, they die from dehydration.) She treated the dehydration, he treated the Parvo...for $350.

Here's where I come in. After seeing how caring this doctor was, I went to him with Nilla. Knowing a potentially deadly neurological treatment would be costly, I would stop at nothing for my babies. Dr. Roberts office was willing to put me on a payment plan for the $1300 it cost to treat Nilla. Nilla's decline was sudden and quick and she died within 2 weeks...we were still testing, still treating...she wasn't responding and we were unable to save her...not because he was incapable, but because time was not on our side. A week to the day after Nilla's death, I discovered a tumor in my other cat's ear. I took her to Dr. Roberts office and he said "Kelly, we couldn't save Nilla, but I will save Oreo." Removal of the tumor requires surgery, which I could not afford (I was only a week into payments for Nilla's care for $1300). Dr. Roberts agreed to do an alternative non-invasive treatment that was less costly. He removed the tumor without surgery, for far less money, and it is gone. Her ear infections disappeared (they were recurring for 4 years) and her personality, which was aggressive, completely turned around. She is the sweetest princess now. (This event occurred in 2005.) I think he is a saint. He works hard and his staff is terrific. If Emily is working, as for her. She's wonderful and was heartbroken when Nilla died. (She carried Nilla all over the office on her shoulder when Nilla was in their care.) They are very personal. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Thanks a lot for the info! I can not believe you went trough all that! One would expect that Drs and teachers should pick their careers basically because that is what they love to do and not because of the amount of money they can make. It is really a horror what that Dr. told you!

Thanks again... I will go by and take a look.

Default Moving to Gilbert

I am moving to Phoenix in a couple of weeks, and need to find a new vet. I made the mistake of not really checking around for my vet here and I dont want to make that mistake again. My little puppy is a liver shunt baby and had the corrective surgery at 3 months, but i would like to find a vet who is familiar with liver shunt puppies. Does anyone have any recommendations, or know of anyone in the Gilbert/Mesa area?

Thanks

I have not used them, but I hear that the Small Animal Clinic in Chandler is good.

Could not agree with you more on this.. However, ARECA on Country Club near Brown saved my yorkies life.. for any emergency or issues that are beyond a normal vet--your vet can refer to them..they are like the Mayo Clinic for your pet.
