Breeder in the North Texas area I'm looking for a reputable breeder in the north Texas area. I've done a lot of research but am finding it a little overwhelming to find a decent breeder that cares more about the breed than the money they are making. We bought our first Yorkie from a backyard breeder simply because we didn't know any better. We had her a week before she was diagnosed with a liver shunt. Our vet told us she only had 3 months to live. With lots of care (and money) she lived to be 7. That was 6 years ago. I'm finally ready to allow myself to love another Yorkie. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yorkshire Terrier Club of America is a very reputable breeders' association. They have a breeder referral page so that you can find a breeder in your state/area. Hope you find a wonderful, healthy baby. If you find someone from another site, please watch out for the advertisement of "teacups" - there is no such thing. Pups should not be placed before 12 wks of age for their safety. Reputable breeders do not sell "open registrations" without knowing someone and agreeing to mentor them. - Things I didn't know when I bought my 1st yorkie.

Private message Hi there. I live in Fort Worth and I sent you a private message. After you read it, send me an email. I just remembered that I know of someone who had two puppies ready to go in April. Great, healthy puppies. I'll put you in touch and you can check to see if they are still available. Dena

If you are still looking, i wanted to tell you about Trena who lives right there in Weatherford. I got Kissy from her 10 years ago. I then got Angel from her 5 years ago. They are perfectly healthy and the sweetest dogs. I have been to her place several times and is very proud to let you look around. she is a very sweet lady and loves her babies. 3 other friends of mine have pups from her and they are great too. she has 2 little females available right now. www.trenastoys.com Please tell her that Linda sent you! Since she is right there in town with you, I thought you could go check it out to see if she might have what you are looking for. Good luck finding your new baby!!

I was wondering the same thing. Are they AKC as well? She has a lot of dams listed on her site. Does she own all of them?

Remember that the puppy you get will look like the parents. Take a good look and be sure that is what you want for the next 15 or so years.

Trena uses the UKC...makes no difference to me since i wasn't interested in breeding. I wasn't planning on registering any of mine...why pay the AKC money for something I didn't need. I have papers on all my girls but they just got filed away. Unless you are going to breed, it really doesn't matter IMO. I personally am more interested in the quality and health of the dog. I have known many AKC registered dogs that end up with Liver Shunt, LP as well as other major medical conditions. Those 3 letters do not necessarily mean good health as AKC will register any dog as long as it is accompanied by money. That's all they are really interested in. I had an issue with an "AKC" breeder in my area and she turned out to be a crook and scam artist. I reported her to the AKC and they basically told me they didn't care. That's when i learned what those groups really care about...follow the money and you will find most of your answers. Trena knows all her dogs and she is a good person. I wouldn't hesitate to get another pet from her. If you want to breed, then I wouldn't recommend her to you as hers are just for pets. If you are going to be a breeder, I would suggest that you contact some of the reputable breeders and find a mentor to help you with everything. I have gotten my girls from Michigan, South Dakota and Texas (2 different breeders). Best of luck finding your new furchild.
