| Austin, TX Boarding? Hi all, new to Yorkie Talk. I have a 6 month old yorkie, Seleena, who is the spoiled child of the family In a couple of months, we will be taking a trip to Dallas for the weekend, and the hotel we are staying at doesn't accept pets. Are their any boarding places in Austin that anyone can recommend? This girl is my baby, so the thought of her being in a kennel is just killing me, but I need to find a back-up in case I can't get a petsitter to come to the house. Thanks! |

| I don't know about Austin, but I just visited the Dogtopia here in Waco today and it looks like a great place! You can even check in on the webcam several times a day. If you look on the last page of our meetup thread, you will find a link. We would also love to have you come to our meetup. Just check out those threads. It's this Saturday, the 16th from 1-3 or so.

| We also like to yorkiesit, but I'm about to go back to school (as a teacher). I am available during the summer and Christmas break though.

| Barking Hound I live in Austin and I totally know how you feel. My Scooter is King of the Castle. He is well trained but spoiled as all get out. I work full time so after I got Scooter, I was on a mission to find a great place that offered daycare and boarding. I take Scooter to Barking Hound Village (one block off of Lamar at Barton Springs - behind P.Terrys). Scooter goes to daycare once or twice a week so that he can have plenty of play time with other dogs his size. I have had to take a few business trips and couldn't take Scooter. He stayed there each time and loved it. They take really good care of them. They have a large staff and the pens are big. Each pen has water at all times and they promise the dogs go out a minimum of 5 times a day for 30 minute min. sessions. They take amazing care of Scooter. He loves it so much he can't scratch to get out of my car fast enough when I drop him off. They charge $20 for daycare and $28 (I think - they just changed the price) a night for boarding but it includes a full day of play. Some places I went and looked at (PM me if you want my Hell No list) just didn't look safe or dog friendly. I chose Barkhound Village after 3 co-workers recommended it to me. I work at the capitol so it is sort of close but a bit of a pain considering I live near Camp Mabry. I visited other places and hands down Barking Hound was the clear winner. They remember Scooter and totally love him, all I see them do is give him kisses. He plays so much that he normally lays down on my lap on the drive home because he has had so much fun. One of the employees even video taped Scooter playing on her cell phone because he was so funny when he was playing. On the few occasions I have boarded him, they take all kinds of notes and ask all kinds of questions. Last time I picked him up after boarding him, they had given him a chew stick to nibble on. I can't say enough good things about Barking Hound Village. Vanessa is the manager but everyone is so nice and helpful. My advice, before you go out of town, take your baby for a playday. See how she reacts. If she is tired but in a great mood, you know she loves it. The first time they always are overly excited to see you but you can still tell. They have great hours during the week (7:30am to 8PM). Try them, I LOVE THEM.

| Hi Austin girl (and all), Another Austin girl joining the club here. I have a 3 year old "toddler", Chloe. She had been living with my retired parents in Miami for most of her life and just joined me and my new husband here in Texas. She's been with us for about a month now. We have our fair share of challenges with her as an older dog getting accustomed to a new lifestyle, but she is my little spoiled yorkie. Anyway, I hope you do find a great place to take care of your pup. Let us know where you end up at, and if you do try out the place that was suggested. My husband and I are looking to take a real honeymoon sometime soon, and might need to find a place for Chloe. We are out in Lakeway, so downtown is kind of far. I'm going to check out some places in this area and will let you know if I find any cool places. Good luck! Melissa |

| Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I live in South Austin (as my friends say, I practically live in San Anotnio), so a trip to Waco would be a bit far, but I'll definately be on the lookout for yorkie-friendly places. Because of my job location and my BF's job location, we end up driving all over Austin, so there's nothing that's really too far away. I might have to give the Barking Hound Village daycare a try and see how Seleena takes to it. Thanks for the suggestion! It seems like my friends, who have large dogs, just don't *understand* how much of a princess Seleena is, and why I care so much about where she goes, who she stays with, how she's treated, etc. Glad to know that there are others out there that understand. |

| live in San Marcos Hey, I live in San Marcos with my two little ones and we take them to our vets when going on vacation- Dr.Williams Vet Clinic off of Hunter road. I believe they only charge $5-10 a night (haven't done it in a long while and there are new owners) but I feel comfortable leaving them there because if something happens to one of them, they are already at the vets! Mark (old owner) and Todd (new owner) are the doctors and they are great! I also believe Mark lives right next door to the vets. Muffy and Tuffy love it there! |
