| Yorkie Haircut I took my wife's Yorkie to be groomed lastweek & I told the Groomer to just trim around her face and her tail. She was not supposed to cut any hair from underneath her body, but she did. She put the dog in my arms & said that she cut the hair under her belly by mistake. I did not think much about it till I got home & my wife looked at her & her hair was all chopped up& she does not have the long hair almost dragging the floor now. What I'm worried about is will her hair grow back? If so how long should it take? Any responce will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Mike |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm confused, even show dogs have the hair on the belly cut, it's for sanitary reasons. It shouldn't make any difference from what you see when standing. Do you mean that she also cut the hair on the body? That hair will grow back, Yorkie's have hair not fur and their hair continues to grow, but depending if she's silk or cotton coated, it may take a while. I think it grows about the same rate as human hair, with cotton coated yorkies growing a little faster than silky coated yorkies.

| My dogs' hair is also trimmed underneath - their bellies and private areas for sanitary reasons. The hair on my retired champion females are kept long on their sides and then trimmed on the top. Just how I like it. Of course the hair on my young girls are long and wrapped to let their hair to continue to grow and to allow them to play and not trip over their coat or get it dirty. To answer your question - it takes about two years on an average to let a coat grow completly out if cared for and they have a good silky coat. |
