Default South Florida Girls!!! What is the best food for your puppy?

Right now I am feeding Bella NUTRO puppy, but I have heard that it has a lot of by products. Can you recommend what you are feeding your puppies.
Thank you,
Carmen

I fed Gracie Authority Lamb and Rice for puppies, but now feed her Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier............... I think any lamb and rice chow is good for the pups but I found it difficult to find any but Authority lamb and rice that did not have corn and by-products..............

Ok, You guys aren't going to like this because I don't feed my Bell anything expensive or special.. I feed her Purina One with Chicken.. It has less by products, it isn't expensive, you can purchase it anywhere. ANd the best part, when she eats it, her poop is SO MUCH SMALLER.. Probably because of the lack of extra by-products.. It is the only food I feed my westie and he lived until 15 years old, He probably would have lasted longer but he was a product of a PUPPY MILL and was never really healthy from the start.

I feed mine BilJac. I started using Biljac when I was showing my pom and my keeshond.
I think it does wonders for their coat and their poop. No by-products so it is well digested.
Looks like rabbit food pellets.
It crumbles easy so easy for them to eat.

Animal Smiley 036 What Matise eats.

I feed Matise Science Diet Prescription Diet I/D can food.
Matise has had some gastrointestinal(sp) problems in the past(a little vomiting for no apparent reason and all xrays, blood tests gave no reason-he seamed perfectly healthy but for some reason he was vomiting) So we my vet and I thought it could possibly be a food allergy or sensitivity-possibly to animal by products so I changed his diet and now I feed him Hills Science Diet Prescription Diet I/D can (not the dry because it does have by-products in it) the vet said it is a complete nutrition diet so it is perfectly fine to feed it to him indefinetly, and it doesn't have animal by-products. He loves it, and no more vomitting. And I am happy he is getting a complete diet with no animal by-products. I know that because I give him soft food I make sure that he has non-edible toys that help clean his teeth and I will have to keep an eye on them and take him in for regular teeth cleanings.

this is the ingredients list if you are curious.
Ingredients
Water, egg product, turkey, rice, corn meal, pork liver, soy fiber, taurine, minerals (dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, salt, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), vitamins (choline chloride, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement).

What did you feed Matise before? Did you switch to something without grains? Also what was the meat source? You might not need to keep in om prescription food. Mojo ate I/D also when he was sick...now he eats canidae which is sooo much better and the same price as any other good food

We (my vet & I) don't think it is the grains we think it is the animal by products. The breeder was feeding him garbage- no name pouches. I switched him to science diet puppy, he liked it better but we were still having vomitting episodes and he also had to be encouraged to eat, he never wanted to eat. When he was 9 months old we switched him to the i/d. My sister is a vet as well as a registered dietician with science diet and says that i/d is complete nutrition diet. He gets everything he should without the animal by products. So it is a complete diet. We are having the results that we want, no vomiting, he LOVES to eat, and he gained weight. So unless we have a problem with this food we plan to feed it to him indefinetely. The price is not an issue either. I am sure we all would spend whatever for our little ones to be happy. Can you say spoiled. I just want Matise to want to eat and eat a high quality food. Thanks though for the suggestion. But after many sleepless nights and trips to the emergency room for dehydration- you know that if he weighs 2.5 lbs. and vomits 4 times he is dehydrated, we finally found success!!! and don't want to mess with that!

This is also some info on the i/d from science diet.

"Its unique formula contains high levels of EPA (Eicosapentanoic Acid), an omega-3 fatty acid found in high concentrations in fish oil. Research has shown that EPA can help maintain joint function. Enhanced levels of glucosamine and chondroitin provide the building blocks of healthy cartilage, and L-carnitine, which helps maintain optimum body weight. It is highly digestible, with added antioxidant nutrients like Vitamin E, Vitamin C and selenium."
