There is something I wanted to mention. I don't know how many of you know, but May 1st, they are shutting down part of I-40 right smack dab in downtown knoxville. I-640 will be the detour. If you don't come to Knoxville very often, it can be confusing, but it will be okay. Here is the website that describes all the changes for you outtatowners. smartfix40.com (It will be closed for 2 years!) But, as I understand, it will save 14 years of construction or something crazy like that. Anyway, have a great day!

Kristi, Thank you for posting the poll! I didn't know you were a vegetarian .. it would be neat to have some veggie kabobs there!

Can't wait to see what everyone else wants to eat.

Default Meetup Places

Okay everyone, I went to Victor Ashe Park and took some pictures for all to see (which I post on the thread in mere moments). I went at about 4:30-5 in the afternoon and it was quite pleasant. I didn't take my dogs with me though. There were several puppies and medium/large breed dogs there. It is very big, and there is a watering fountain just for the dogs, and lots of obstacles for the dogs to run jump and play over.

There are benches and trees and parts are very shady. The fence is a nice chain link and I think it would be very possible for us to take our X-pens and section off an unused corner for our babies to play in. The back part of the dog park isn't really used much, so I thought that would be a great place to section off our own little dog park.

There are facilities there for us, as well as a covered pavillion with grills that we can utilize for our cooking. Victor Ashe also has several miles of beautiful walking trails. It located off of I-640 off of Western Avenue.

My next ideas was that we could just meet at my apartment complex. You're probably thinking that stinks a whole lot, but really, its not that bad. We have a small fenced in dog park, about the size of 30 yards by 40 yards. Its pretty big, but small enough for all of our little Yorkies to run around. Not many dogs use it all actually. In this area where the dog park is, there are two picnic tables that we could move closed to each, a playground if you were bringing your kids, and my apartment is right next to it if you wanted to use the restroom or what have you. I have a grill, and my mom can bring another, much larger grill to get all of our cooking done.

There is also a pool right across the way if you wanted to go swimming. The picture that I am posting of this little dog park shows it has some weeds, but the mowers were there that day and they took care of it.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!!

Rachel

When will everything be over with do you think? Are all the events in the morning, afternoon, or evening?

I was thinking we could have the meetup late afternoon, like -- I don't know .. 5 or so? That way, it won't be too hot -- it should be just right. Plus, if we start eating around 6, that way we can hopefully wrap everything up by 7:30 or just before dark.

Lemme know!

Default Pictures of both Dog parks

First, I am posting pictures of Victor Ashe Dogwood Park. Here is the link for the City of Knoxville -- it has a lot of information about it, and more interesting stuff -- City of Knoxville - Victor Ashe Park

Default Victor Ashe Dogwood Park

Okay, I fixed what I was doing wrong. Here are the pics of Victor Ashe Dogwood park. This place will have a lot more other dogs there, but the grounds are beautiful and very well taken care of.

So far, the plans are meeting at 5 pm, eating by 6 and wrapping up by dark or 7:30 or so. I would like for this to be a group decision of where we meet. Either is fine by me. However, if we meet at my complex, we would only need one x-pen (under the gate to the fenced in area is a big gap -- our smart Yorkies will get underneath it!).

Let me know what you guys think about all this. Victor Ashe Park is located about 7 minutes from downtown knoxville, and my aparment complex is located about 13 minutes from Downtown, in West Knox, off of the Walker Springs Exit.
