| Just bumping this up for you. Sorry - how I wished I lived in Florida! If you find the perfect one, give it to me - I'll save it for a few years.

| Are you looking at a 24 hour staffed assisted living situation or a 55+ gated community? There are different levels of assisted living. Have you done a google search for that area? Good luck in your search. |

| I am in the Tampa area. Are you looking for retirement living? Independent living or some level of assistance. I used to do Nursing case management and have links to govt web sites where you can check out facilities all over the state if you need extended care like a nursing home??? Just let us know what you are looking for! |

| Thanks my friends. Here is the situation My mother has been in a very expensive senior living facility for about two years. She has Alzheimers. The disease seems to be progressing slowly. The facility she is at doesn't take Medicare or Medicaid and we are running out of money. We have gone through all of her savings and must move her to a facility that will accept Medicaid and hopefully has an Alheimers unit. The only visitors she gets are her church friends because I'm in Illinois and my drunken brother in Florida won't go visit her even though she supported him before we had to put her in the facility! |

| I forgot to mention that she is from Arcadia and is at Arcadia Oaks right now. I would like to keep her close enough so that her friends can still visit her. Does anyone know anything about Punta Gorda Elderly Care Center? So far that looks like the best possibility but the Administrator is making me jump through a lot of hoops in order to get more money from various organizations. | This might be too far away as it is in Fort Myers. I've heard good things about it from a coworker whose father lived there. http://www.shellpoint.org/

| This might be helpful. It ranks nursing homes in Charlotte County, where Punta Gorda is. http://www.nursing-homes-ratings.com...tte/index.html

| Here are facilities in the arcadia area that have beel listed by the alzheimer's association http://www.seniorhousingfinder.org/t...rcadia%2C%20FL There is also a free referral service called A place for mom http://www.aplaceformom.com/assess.asp They would also have information about closed units. Then there is the ACHA, the governing body that provides these facilities with their lic to operate. http://ahcaxnet.fdhc.state.fl.us/nhcguide/ Facilities are audited/inspected and obtain ratings by ACHA. I think they have specifics on this web site. What percentage of problems like bed sores originate in the nursing home etc. Please feel free to pm me with any specific questions. I only have experience from the hospital side, but would be glad to try to get you to the right resourse if I can. At least I will try!!! LIsa |
