Default Removing of 'certain posts'??

As an author of some controversial threads I wonder if authors can request posts to be removed by PMing admin? posts that are off topic and not nice.

If you click on the exclamation point on the bottom left of that person's post (next to the online/offline signal) you can report the bad post.

And conversely, if one spends a great deal of time writing something that geta deleted, can they request a copy be emailed to them?

Also if a thread is deleted and the thread starter did not get to read all of it before it was deleted can they get a copy to see what was said? There was a thread deleted today where this happened. The thread went on for about 7 pages and comments were made about the thread starter that lots of members read but the thread starter was not online before it was deleted and cannot now read what was posted. Can she get a copy somehow?

I speak only from being an admin on another forum, but once things are deleted, they are not meant to be copied and shared with anyone who asks. It's deleted so that the discussion stops. There was obviously a reason for the thread to be deleted, rather than only certain posts be deleted, so why start up controversy? Seems that would be the only thing that would come of it. Once things are deleted, they stay that way on the forum I admin. Just my opinion.

If the people on my forum need a copy of everything they type, they need to print it out. That's the only way they guarantee themselves a copy. Otherwise, if it becomes deleted, they're out of luck.

I TOTALLY Agree with Amanda - that makes alot of sense.

I actually don't see why anyone would WANT copies of all the deleted stuff - why worry about it ? If it's gone it's gone... and there must have been a reason why it was deleted. IF someone wanted copies of something deleted it must be because they WANT to keep things stirred up and I would have to wonder why they'd want to do that.

IN my Opinion - We have enough to read without trying to keep stuff that may not be helpful to anyone dragging out for page after page... I think Admin has a handle on who is posting for controversary.... and they try to stop it before it goes too far.

I don't think Admin has a habit of deleting 'Helpful' threads - only disruptive ones....again - this is ONLY my opinion....with a site this big - it's a job keeping up with all the different personalities

I'd way rather see stuff deleted.... than see people SUSPENDED....

PS...I should have said in my previous post that I think we can all admit to being CURIOUS or nosy as to what gets said ....I know I am

And IF a person who was the original Thread Starter wanted a copy - then I guess it's up to THEM to make their own - if they aren't online - then hey - I guess they weren't that interested in the answers posted.

but to actually want to keep every controvesial or hurtful thread kind of says that the person who'd do this has other motives.... and probably not good ones....

As I said earlier - why bother ?...that's how things get blown out of porportion or rumors get started.

I really don't care either way if someone wants to keep a post or not. But looks like a good question for Admin too.

I have started threads that I know there are split opinions..some agree and some don't When I start certain threads, I don't care really to see some go back and forth as to who's opinion is right or wrong. It doesnt matter..that's when things get off topic and turn into some nasty posts. I just want to see opinions, or experiences, statistic facts are also enlightening. Anything that goes off on tangents I really don't care to read or watch others battle over. So, Admin, as an author of a thread. Can I control that to some degree by PMing you and asking you to delete a post that gets off track? I am sure this can get out of hand, I'm just asking for a chance to stop stuff before it gets way out of hand and then my objective of why I posted to begin with was never met..

Here's an example..If I ask about breeder experiences about something...I ONLY want to know what others do and why..not someone else saying they are not right and why...if they have a different opinion just state it and move on!!!! It's a pet peeve of mine. This is something I would like to do with my threads personally, maybe others disagree with me or agree. I am not asking to control other's threads..only my own to some degree.

Thanks!

I should just stay out of this - but wouldn't that be more like censorship ? I know you can report posts and you have options at your disposal if you choose to use them - but the whole point of a public forum is to allow anyone to post when and where they want ....I know some things DO get out of hand and you're right about that...but if everyone picked and choose what posts they wanted to keep public.... I think that's kind of an intrusion on free speech.....

I guess if you wanted a specific question answered and only from specific people - the PM option is the way to ensure you get specific answers right ? That would save you from reading all the posts you didn't feel were helpful

Well you are taking my question to Admin out of context Villette. I am askign the rules of YT to be more enforced. WE are supposed to stay on topic and be nice right?

I want to stay on topic here so I'll start a new thread....

Wow - I didn't know we couldn't post here....I thought you were asking valid questions and was trying to help.

No problem ...After reading the other responses I thought I was staying right in the scope of your questions....if you feel I wasn't - that's your right. I think this is a good example of why things get started and believe me - that was NOT my intention at all....but I won't say anything else about this....

Good luck with your quest for answers.

Your right..and see how the direction veered off. I am not saying Kim is the only one. I've done the samething. I am not trying to censor anyone or anything but just trying to keep focused on the topic or question at hand..I didn't say you can't post here Villette. Did I?

I started another thread so that Kim's question can be addressed and you and others can discuss that. This thread is a perfet example of what I HATE to see! I've done it too, but then I go back and start a new thread and ask Admin to delete my own. It's just out of respect of the author really.

Irene~

I understand what you are saying and I think the ability to at least request that a bad post be deleted is to use the red triangle...it is not a guaratee however and still must be appproved and done by a moderator and that takes time sometimes.

I do apologize for asking my question in your thread but I felt it was somewhat related and was simply trying to make it easier on admin by putting both concerns in one place.

I felt it was unfair that Luckierdog never got yo read the negative things that so many posted about her because she was offline. It is almost a legal issue in my mind and she should have a right to see and read what others posted since it was "published" to the outside world and so many did read it.

Again, I apologize and will try harder not to do this again.
