| Photo Auto Re-sizing - Admin Have you looked into an auto re-sizing feature for posting photos to the threads? If so, any possibility of getting that feature added? Recently I increased the size of my photos for a little bit more clarity and detail but the new size photos are in excess of your required 200kb. It was a PIA to try to resize each photo individually. |

| I have found that if I use Adobe Photoshop and use the "save for web" feature I can use larger photos. I don't know if other editing programs have that??

| Thanks for the recommendation, I looked, I didn't see the option in what I have. The standard pictures library with Windows 7. |

| Yep, still no response.... guess it's a worn out subject here. Auto resizing would make it much easier to post photos here. It is a recurring subject, minor but recurring. |

| I agree wholeheartedly that it would be a MAJOR improvement to this site and would get used on a regular basis by most members. Everybody on this site likes to see pics of all the furbabies. Come on admin!!! PLEASE!!!

But seriously, look at ALL of the threads that ask about photos, downloading, posting, threads of photos.... it adds up to a major issue at this site that apparently is very easy or at least very common to remedy. And, I'll add, get rid of the little thumbnails that post, you have to click them, open up another tab or some such... other forums just load the whole photo into the thread in a view-able size. This v-bulletin format based website is used in other forums that have very photo friendly versions. What holds YT back from such an upgrade and improvement?

| I sometimes use Paint and just set the pixels at like 900 x 600

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I will contact Admin and look into this, but my guess is that there is a reason it's not this way already. As far as resizing, most applications can make it super easy...ie, I have Photoshop (but many other apps have this also) and all I have to do when saving is select the size I want it to end up as (ie 400k, 357k, 198k, whatever...). The free ones out there supposedly have something like this as well. What are you using, Mark, to resize your piccies? And have you tried using Picasa or anything?

| Image Resizer for Windows - Download: Image Resizer 2.1 I just installed this resizer and I like it so far. Once you install it all you have to do is find the pic in your PC, right click and choose resize. It gives you 3 options (small, med, large). It saves the file in the same directory and adds either small med or large to the file name. The best thing is that it will do multiple pics at once. I put it on a Windows 7 64 bit system. Not sure if it will work on a newer OS. Here is a sample of a file converted to large. It took less than 5 seconds to convert But it would still be easier if it were done automatically by YT.

So what I did, figured out, was to dummy down, select a different size(lower quality) setting on my phone camera. PHONE camera... it's crappy quality to begin with... That made it so I could download the original, not modified, photo here and at the fishing forum. The size of the photo fluctuated depending on the amount of light and color but I had selected the lowest setting so it always fit YT requirements. So when I got interested in this new hobby, mushrooming, I reset my phone camera to a higher setting so the quality would be a little better(although not much) to assist with ID while posting photos in a mushroom ID page at facebook. Some mushrooms grow in very low light conditions, even now with the higher settings, a lot of my photos are crap. At lower settings, they are useless for ID purposes. Yes, I need to tinker with the phone camera settings to try to make it work or even better yet, carry a better camera. I don't like carrying the bigger camera on these walks with the dogs or while foraging in the woods. Even if I did, those photos would be useless here unless I re-sized them. I recommended a similar upgrade at my favorite fishing forum, they got it done. Other fishing forums that I'm a member at, and facebook, already had the auto re-sizing. Side note: A while back, here at YT, we had a member, a newbie(ok, newer than I), he took a bunch of photos but couldn't get them uploaded here except on the rare occasion his younger adult daughter re-sized them for him(if I recall that correctly).... he was just a guy, a wounded/disabled vet in a wheelchair with, IMO, the largest, ugliest, yorkie I had ever seen! But he was a guy with a yorkie and he loved that dog very much, and that is what I respected. He didn't communicate well on this forum, maybe typing was an issue. He referred to his trips to "the blind" as "hunting" trips and that turns some people off as well. He and his big ugly lovable yorkie were only photographing from a blind set up to be accessed with his wheel chair. The frustration of not being able to upload photos and the lack of being able to convey clearly what he was trying to say, and receiving very little interaction in return, drove him away. I'm thinking, if we had auto re-sizing then, he could have shared his photos as a better way for HIM to communicate. So many other forums have auto re-sizing and the direct insertion of the photo into the postings, not the silly little postage stamp that must be clicked to open up another window to see the photo. What is it that keeps YT from implementing such an upgrade? Cost of data storage space, additional servers, makes the strongest argument against it. Sure would be nice!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just an update on this. Admin has tried the auto-resizing function before and just tried it again, and it doesn't work in the forum - so it's not an option for YT. As far as placing pics inside the post itself, it can be/get very, very messy and clunky. For example, there is no control of the different widths of these pics - so you can insert a wide pic, and then the text goes allllll the way across the same width as the picture, making it very clunky to read. Also when inserting pics, many of those links die off/expire, so then you're later left w/ a bunch of red "X's" where there was once a picture. So, to keep the forum easily readable and clean looking, Admin always elects to keep it simple and consistent looking by using the thumbnail option. This sizer may be one that you like: Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE! See the screen snap I attached? Look to the very bottom where it says "Max File Size" -- that's where you could put "199" for the max size and it would make it good for YT .
