| Debate forum Admin~ In researching some of the controversial topics that come up on her quite frequestly, I have discovered that many dog forums have a specail part of the forum to go to for debating an issue. If a topic is posted in another area and becomes a debate admin simply advses that it is being moved to debate and moves it. Or, if a member knows the topic will be controversial, they would start the thread in debate. There are of course still rules about ivility, name calling and defamation or libel but the members who do not care to debate can steer clear of it but those truly interested in all the different viewpoints and the evidence to back it up can check it out. I know I tend to be involved in some of the controversial threads which become debates because I try to look at all sides and thoroughly research a topic before committing an opinion one way or another...I am not swayed by "popular opinion" and some people really appreciate that. I think it would be beneficial to YT and make it more free and open to different views. I know this isn't a debate forum, but there are some topics which are debated over and over again and good info is learned from those in my opinion. A plus is that the viewers go up when there is an interesting debate going on. Wanted to see what others think. |

| I think this is a great idea. I SUCK at research and really appreciate someone who is able to get to the heart of a matter. Sometimes I wish we could avoid all the internet "spin" on some of these important topics. By spin, I mean when someone posts an unsubstantiated view and everyone jumps on the band wagon without knowing all the facts. There are members here who I trust to bring me the "straight poop" (Villette, Yorkie Rose, WhispersMom, FastEddie, you guys above, and others) and then there are those who jump on a smear campaign every time one is started. I think that is discouraging to new members and can be dangerous. It's easy to post an opinion here where everyone is anonymous where in real life people may not be so quick to judge. Great idea Kim. I hope Admin agrees.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Hmmmmmm...Encouraging debating MIGHT backfire. This is a yorkie site and yes...things can get heated & discussed but I think many times people learn from the discussions... I remember a site that had a "Poison Darts" Section ...when you you logged on it jumped out at you. I can remember thinking "WOW...POISON Darts" ? and of course I HAD to look there first ...cause I'm THAT nosy. it didn't send out very positive vibes...There is OFF Topic here for Venting which I think is great and I'm ALL for DISCUSSIONS - but feel the word "Debate" isn't for a yorkie site.... |

| Sounds good to me too. I have looked for other forums to see how they do things, but can't find any. Members talk about them here, but never list them.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | hmmmmm i think its a good idea in theory but it could go terribly wrong. maybe we could just have time to "try it out" and then if the posts get heated too fast or what ever we don't have it. if it works out well then we keep it. just an idea.....

| I think that VERY few people can actually debate!!! If this came about lets hope it wouldn't become an "argument" section - have a nasty feeling it WOULD!!!!!! Ana xx

| This is a great idea for a good discussion but things can get out of hand very quickly. VERY quickly. I've learned on my own that it is very hard to have a debate on the internet. Often times, people might read the tone wrong or you might have worded something in a different manner and someone might misunderstand you. People get offended very easily. |

You make my point very well. It is the spin and the "JUMPING ON THE BAND WAGON" that I think is not valuable and actually can be dangerous at times. As for my own debate forum, as Villette suggested, I don't see the point because it would have ro be a "yorkie debate forum" and I don't see enough controversy for an entire forum. 99% of what we do is ooooo and ahhhh and tell stories about our babies. I think a section of a forum would be greatl People then have a choice on whether to participate or not and even whether to read it or not. It was just an idea. | |
