| Stinky little girl...She's got the squirts :( Talk about disgusting! Poor baby I dont know what to do! She seems so happy and playful but then she stops for a few minutes and goes to the bathroom. She's been eating the same mighty dog food for 2 weeks now and she just started getting this awful diarrea on Thursday. But besides that she's a very happy dog (thank goodness) but I just cant stand the awful smell and washing of her bed and toys 3 times a day. And I know it's bad but I've also given her about 7 baths since Thursday (usually just washing her butt area). I've taken her straight outside in the heat so she's not cold but she made a mess of herself. Please help! I'm not sure what else to do!

| I would gradually change her food - Mighty Dog isn't a good food. What food was she on before this? Check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com There are some premium foods on there. If you are looking for wet I recommend Evangers or Merricks - there are a lot of differing opinions on here as to which food to choose, but they are both good wet foods. For now, you could give some boiled chicken and rice until her stomach settles down and then slowly switch her to a premium food. If she isn't better in a day or two I would call the vet and have them check a stool sample to rule out anything that could be serious - giardia, coccidia, worms and things like that. Good luck! Hopefully she is feeling better soon Last edited by Too Cute Teddy; 10-20-2007 at 04:37 PM. |

| Definitely change her food. Have you been giving her treats or something that could be upsetting her stomach? If the diarrhea does not stop you should take her to the vet just to be sure she does not have a parasite! Good luck

| Try some canned pumpkin.....not the kind for pumpkin pie but just 100% pure pumpkin. That is suppose to help firm the stool.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'd get her off that food as soon as you can, but w/ a transition period. If she's a puppy, you should really get her to the vet. If she has giardia, it could take her down fast. She needs to be tested asap for giardia, coccidia. Ongoing diarrhea in a puppy indicates something is def. wrong and needing a vet's attention.

| Her bottom must be so irritated and painful to poop since her tummy is equivalent to a human with over acid stomach. Definitely change foods, go to a reputable pet store that sells quality food, not the grocery store, Petco or Petsmart. My first course of action would be "see a good vet" for diagnosis. Warmly, Deborah

| I have given her boiled chicken and rice already she didnt like it too much. She's drinking water and eating like normal. The breeder I got her from actually gave me a can of Mighty Dog to give to her. She's bred yorkies for a long time and has always given her dogs that same food. I was informed this morning that my sister had given her a small amount of Mighty Dog that my other dog eats and its chopped up so I kind of think it was the gravy from that food that she ate on Thursday and thats the day she started to get the diarrhea. The only reason I waited is because I figured it was that food so I thought I'd give her a day or 2 to recooperate. But when she did it again on Saturday morning I was worried. And she's doing it again today. This may seem gross but the smell of the poop is exactly the smell of the food she's eating. She hasnt eaten Mighty Dog since Friday and she's still doing it. But she has had boiled chicken a few times and thats what it smells like. A dog shouldnt be as much work as I've had to do with her. I feel so helpless because I can't seem to make her all better. I was reading up about Guardia and I think thats what she has. I will bring to the vet for sure but I've had to do so many things for this poor puppy and I dont think I can afford to do this all the time. Should I take her back to the breeder? Can I get any suggestions on what to do? Please someone help me.

| That food really isn't that good for her. I'd gradually change it to a better food. In the mean time you can make her some chicken and rice.

| Actually I have put alot of research into puppies especially yorkies thats why i got Cali. It's just very hard that all of my paychecks are going to buying her new food, new beds, vet bills, etc. I love this puppy so much and I really dont want to get rid of her but this puppy is alot more work than any puppy I've ever had/seen. I'm so upset and feel so bad for her.

If you feel you are unable to care properly for your pup, then call the breeder and rehome. Please see your vet immediately since she should be on medication to stop the "squirts", ease the pain and meds for the bacterial infection. Warmly, Deborah

| Wow nobody has been as comforting on here as people that I've talked to outside of this website. I've gotten alot of negative/rude feedback. I'm very ready for this puppy but I just asked for advice if yall knew of anything that I could for her during the weekend since the vet was already closed. Thank you to the people who have given me good advice. I really appreciate your kindness. For now I will take her to the vet and see what's going on. Thanks again!

| It has to be the food~ I put my boyz on IAMS Puppy Formula it is a hard food, I think it is fairly new since all the recall, maybe not, but I was searching for anything during the recall scare and now they eat mostly a home made diet of ground browned turkey w/ veggies, eggs, brown rice, baked potato, etc., but transition your puppy by adding the new food alittle at a time to the old, but in the mean time I would fry up some hamburger and rinse it well to get rid of all grease and add cooked white or brown rice to it, this is a very good way to rid diarreah and you do not want your puppy to dehydrate...My boyz love ice cubes, let your puppy lick on one for a bit, but I take it away then when it gets too small...In the hot summer I have them split a freeze pop, many people have recipes (check out the threads) to help your puppy eat a well balanced and healthy diet...Good Luck!
