| Bad Cough/Gag I have a two month old yorkie for about a week now and he was already diagnosed with a beginning stage of pneumonia and tracheabronchitis within the first 2 days. He was hospitilized for 24 hours and now hes home. The vet gave us Clavomox to give him twice a day and he seemed like he was doing betetr he was running around and fine, and the second day into the medication he has developed a horrible cough/gag that'll go on for about 5 minutes at a time. We brought him back to the vet and he said that he's still probably fighting off the bugs and to try and put him in the room with the shower to catch the steam and help clear him out. But now im concerned because he won't drink water, he has no porblem eating... but he refuses to drink, only lick the water off my fingers. Im just very concerned and would like some feedback, has anyone else had this problem? are there long term side effects? and most importantly how serious is it? The vet said that the cough should go awayfast and if it hasn't yet in 3 days to come back for a suppresant, But iv'e red other threads stating that it sometimes lasted from 3-8 months. Its just so horrible for a pup you've only had for exactly a week now. |

| My first thought is to clean everything that the puppy came in contact with to get rid of the any bug. I don't think it was something from your house but from the breeder, all toys ( plastic or cloth), blankets, beds and creates. Vacuum carpet and sofa's. If the vet gave you a syringe for his meds you can also use it to give him water, I hope you have Natura-Cal and if not add a little bit of sugar to the water (not cold water, the coldest room temp) God, I'm at a lost here with the pneumonia. I deal alot with bronchitis my Buffy has it and is well control with daily meds. Check with your vet if the bronchitis is going to stay with him forever. Let the breeder know whats going on. I sure the other members will help as soon as they wake up....sorry. Do keep us updated on his condition and what the vet thinks. Best of Luck,
