dry skin my puppy is 5months old and lately we have noticed that his skin looks like its dry and peeling. He scartches a lot and when we do it for him he really enjoy it, so we are guessing it must bother him a lot. Its not all over hsi body but manily behing his front and back legs and some on his back. when he scratches alot the skin starts to peel and its on his coat like dandruff. But when we took him to the vet he didnt say much about it so i am not sure what to do I am scared it might be something dangerous because its been going on for about a months and its not going away. he eats fine and drinks alot of water, pretty healthy otherwise.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sounds like you're sure it's not fleas, right? Could definitely be food related - what are you feeding?

.. no its definately not fleas! I have checked a million times and also he is on frontline plus. he is a really picky eater but currently he is on science diet dry puppy food and he loves it. It took us a couple weeks to find some type of food he will eat. But because my mom cooks a lot he LOVES when he finds bits of crumbles on the floor of anything and he will eat it. Also, I am a new yorkie owner so all of it is pretty new to me, I am still learning. But this skin problem is really worrying me

Dry skin is generally due to the lack of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Giving dry dog food alone will certainly cause dry skin and dull coat.

yeah we went to the vet and he gave us some liquid stuff like flex oil with fatty acids I believe that's what it's called. he doesnt have it all over his body its on few spots and its peeling from all the scratching. the dry spots are kind of brownish.

Take care of dry skin and a dry dull coat from the inside out. Feed a good quality kibble high in fatty acids and supplement with a good quality oil -- salmon, emu or mink are all three excellent choices. I am using emu oil right now and love the results.
