| Ellie went to the vet for her itchies The itching has been narrowed down to probably three things. Allergies Sarcoptic Mange Liver problem causing it I switched food four days ago so we have to give that time. Two doses of Benadryl didn't work at all so it seemed like it wasn't allergies. The vet still thinks it might be so she decided to give one injection of an anti-inflammatory to see how Ellie does. The vet was concerned about giving her anything like that because of her liver but she thought it was in Ellie's best interest to do so (because she is making her ears bleed which could be a problem), so she looked in her medical books and said one dose wouldn't hurt a thing. We went ahead with that and if last night is any indication of how it is working, it isn't working. I will have a better idea tonight though. If the itchies don't go away we will have to do a skin scraping for mange. If mange isn't the problem we have to look at it being from her liver.

| Have you tried putting Ellie back on her old food? Or doing bland diet? |

| She has to be on a low protein food. The Royal Canin for this could be causing the itches so she is back on homecooked low protein.

| I hope it's some kind of allergy or at the worse mange, because they're easier to fix. Prayers are definetly coming your way.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Cali has mild MVD and she scratches all the time. Her coat is a mess and she is miserable. 3 meds haven't helped. I wonder now from what you said if it could be related to her liver disease. I have had the blood allergy testing that showed nothing, put her on a novel protein and carbo diet nothing, I am going to try a dermatologist and see if they have any ideas. I know how you feel, I feel so bad when she scratches all the time.

| Patti, is it mainly concentrated on her ears and jaws? Thats what Ellie's seems to be along with her paws. I hope it is not her liver but I believe there is a med for it or atleast supplements if it is. I would talk to your vet about it...

| Poor little Ellie! I hope that you can get it figured out and she can be relieved of her symptoms. I'll say a prayer for your sweetie!

| Poor little Ellie. My Shena had sarcoptic mange when she was a puppy. the vet believe she probably got it from her liter mates. The breeder I got her from wasnt very reputable under my eyes. Anyways, she was so itchy mostly on her ears and there were crusty substances on her ears. Hopefully its just the diet for Ellie. take care.. thinking of you |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She mainly scratches her face and head. I have thought of cutting her topknot off to see if that is bothering her but when I take it down she still itches. I am going to tae her to a dermatologist that was highly recommended.

| Really? If this shot of anti-inflammatories doesn't stop the itching by about 8 or 9 I am going to give her Revolution since that treats sarcoptic mange. If that doesn't work we will do a skin scraping or the vet will call specialists. The vet is very frustrated. Cali's scratching doesn't happen more at night, does it?
