pneumonia Has anyone ever had their yorkie get pneumonia? it's so strange? cody was at a day care center about 3 weeks ago, the week before labor day, and then labor day weekend he had a friend over for the long weeken. after his friend left he was a sad and hacking a little, about a week or so later i got very worried because he looked like he was still sad, and was hacking a little more. i took him to the vet and they took xrays and says that he has pneumonia? how did this happen? my friends dog is perfectly fine. and cody has totally changed from the friendliest playful dog to this sick sad puppy ...it's heart wretching.

Hope little Cody is ok. Did the vet say if it was life threatening? What did the vet give you for a prescription?

My previous dog, Manya, had an acute aspiration pneumonia and died in three days from that. You have to understand that it is VERY serious. You puppy has to be put on antibiotics right away. You have to have a vet that supervises his progress. What is his white blood cell count? Has the x-ray showed pneumonia in one or two lungs? He might need to be put on oxygen in case his oxygenation level is low. Your doctor has to check this out along with his blood and chest x-rays. He can't be left home alone because nobody knows what might happen.

So sorry to hear about your little guy. He probably picked it up at the doggy daycare. Your vet has him on antibiotics and if he doesn't appear to be getting worse he should be coming out of it. I know it takes quite a while to recover from such a serious illness so just be patient, go to your follow-up vet appt. and give him tons of love.

Ask your vet about him running around and playing. I think with pneumonia rest is what Cody needs. I don't think the extra hacking is good for him. But it sure sounds like he's getting a lot better. Way to fight Cody!

thank you all for your prayers and kind works, i think cody had a break through last night, he is still hacking but not as much, and he seems like he's almost back to normal, his playfullness is coming back and he's eating his food normally again. i took him outside yeterday for the first time in a week, and he was so happy to be outside, of course i kept him away from the other dogs. we're going back to the vet tomorrow to get another set of xrays to make sure the chest is clear, but everything looks promising. thanks again.
