| Bleeding from nail bed? My 4 year old yorkie/chi mix is having a problem with his front paw. He'll limp on it for a while, and cry every now and then. Just today I noticed some blood. It's coming right where his nail meets his paw. Have any of you seen this before? I'm not sure if it's from an injury that I didn't witness, or something else. My vet doesn't reopen until Monday, and I plan on taking him then. There is a vet hospital open, however I don't really know if this is an emergency. Any thoughts?

| he may have tore his nail apart from the nail bed. if i were you i'd put a sock around it until you can get to the vet monday. if he has been limping and crying i would say that warrents a trip to the vet! put the sock or whatever on so he doens't lick it too much and aggravate it more. i'm sure this happened when he was playing or something.. whenever Layla runs and stops fast on the carpet i'm always SO worried she is going to catch her nail!! hope the vet can fix whatever it is fast and painless |

| Toe nails bleed like crazy but tend to heal very quickly. I usually will put a smear of vaseline over the area after I've cleaned it. It helps to keep the dirt out. Charlene |

| Thank you so much for all of your advice! I am definately planning on a trip to the vet on Monday. I was debating taking him to the ER vet, however it doesn't seem to be bothering him, and now that the bleeding has stopped he's not licking at it. It could very well be that the nail has seperated, as the blood was coming right from the top of the nail where it meets the skin. He's due for a nail trim, so maybe I let it go too long, and he got it caught on something while playing? Poor baby. I'm going to keep it clean and keep a very close eye on him until Monday. Thanks again!! Kate
