| Blood in Urine after neuter... Hello, MIckey got Neutered yesterday (he is 8 mos). Everything went very well. He slept all night last night, but still ate his dinner. Today he is like his old self again... wants to be playful, eating and drinking normally. I just took him out for a short walk... he is still lifting his leg. The first time that he lifted his leg his urine looked normal. The second time ( a min later... he marks everything outside!) i noticed it was a little darker then normal. The third time his urine was brown and possibly looked thicker than usual. He then tried lifting his leg again and nothing came out, then the next time it was very dark and almost a bright maroonish color. IT was hard to tell cause it was on shrubbery, but it definalty could have been a few drops of blood. I called the vet and they are closed. I also had my mom call her vet, and they were closed. My only option is the emergency room. Is this normal after neutering? Up until this point he was urinating and everything perfectly normal. He has been home for about 24 hours. Help........ Does this warrant a trip to the emergency vet?

| For your own peace of mind and it is better safe than sorry, I would take him to the Emer vet if you can't get ahold of yours. I don't know if it is a bad sign or nothing to worry about, but neither of my males had this happen after their neuter. Hopefully others will chime in here for you if it has happened to them. Ps, I just wanted to add, are you sure it is coming from his urine and not the site of the incision?

| 100% positive its from his urine. The incision site is very very clean, with no blood at all.

| Oh gosh, poor little guy...I'll pray for him. If you're worried, a trip to the ER vet may be necessary. Blood in the urine is not "normal." Might be a UTI or stones/crystals...

| Rebel was neutered on Monday morning. We picked him up from the vet clinic at 4:00 that afternoon. He peed when we got home and it was kind of dark and concentrated. By Monday night it definately had blood in it and Tuesday morning it looked like pure blood. I took him back to the clinic. They said there was no reason for bleeding and it was not normal. They kept him over night and put him on antibiotics. We took him home today and his urine is still blood tinged. He also seems to be having trouble controlling his urine. It seems to just dribble out. He's peeing all over the house. Did anyone else experience loss of control in the days after the neutering? I feel so bad for putting him through all this.

| Thanks Yorkieluv. If he's not better by morning, I'll go back to the clinic.

| Many times when they're having problems like that there's an underlying issue, not necessarily the neuter. Like I said, probably UTI or stones/crystals. I'll pray for your little one...

| That happened to Deiter, after he got fixed. I took him to the vet and they gave him meds, then it cleared up the next day.

| Update Just an update on Mickey. We went back to the vet and they are doing a urinalysis- they suspect he has a urinary tract infection. We will know for sure when the urinalysis results come back tomorrow. In the meantime, we are treating him with antibiotics- Clavamox. Hopefully all will be better in a day or two. In the meantime my little baby is just as playful as ever, and it really doesnt appear that anything is bothering him- but if a dogs UTI is anything like a humans... OUCH... poor baby! If it doesnt clear up in 4 or 5 days, back we go for some x-rays... lets hope that's not the case! Will keep you posted!

| Micknmal, I hope that it's just a UTI and no crystals or stones. Keep in mind that certain types of stones will NOT show up on an x-ray..only on ultrasound. I'll pray that he has a simple UTI, and that he gets better quick!!

| MickNMal, Thanks for asking about Rebel. We went back to the vet this morning and they did x-rays to check for a stone. Their x-ray processing machine is messed up and they won't be able to process the x-ray until morning. Rebel is also on antibiotics and seems to be a little better this evening. He has peed on the carpet so much that I'm going to have to clean it. Boy, you're right about those UTI's..... OUCH! It's hard for me to believe that whatever is wrong is not associated with the neutering. My older yorkie was neutered about a year ago and was groggy and sore for a day and was back to normal by the next day. Rebel has been in bad shape for 5 days now. I sure feel bad for doing this to him, though I know it's best. I hope your little Mickey gets better real soon too!

| When my little Mickey had crystals/stones he also dribbled every where , in places he never peed before and started doing it right in front of me, I kept taking him back to the vets. they kept playing the guessing game and then sending us back home. well it got to the point he was very ill and could not pee at all . Please dont let your vet play the guessing game and make them check for crystals/stones. they can die from this. I hope your bbay just has a UTI will keep them in my prayers. |

| Hello, I am going thru the same thing with my baby Niki, he got neuter yesterday and today I noticed he has blood in his urine. I/m freaking out bc my vet is closed until Monday and today is Sunday. Not sure if I should go to the ER or waited out. What was your outcome/exprience and what do you advise I do? |
