| Warning...Bella's Night of Explosive Diarrhea & Projectile Vomitting What a night we had...first it started with my son forgetting to tell me that Bella had vomited in the morning before I left for work and then when I returned home from work, he forgot to mention that she had had about 5 liquidy stools during the day... grrr! So, off I went to my craft club and when I returned there was an array of piddle pads with poop stains on ALL of them like polka dots...yuck ! Questioning him further...I learned that she obviously hadn't been feeling well all day long...kids, grrr! Well, from there on out...I was up with poor Bella ALL night long, every hour on the hour she was going from both ends. It's been so long since my kids have been little I forgot what "Projectile" vomiting could be like...not fun Funny thing was that she would jump into the shower to do her duty...yuck...but, it was a lot easier to clean up that way, too. I think I bathed her bootie about 20 times last night! Needless to say...we were parked outside the Vet's office as soon as they opened! Lucky for me...she did all her tricks for the Vet to see for himself...ick! She lost 1 lb 3 oz from all that business, too! As much as I really didn't want to leave her...I knew she needed the IV hydration and the meds to cool down her stomach plus, I'm so exhausted I literally feel like a walking zombie...not a pretty sight For now, the Vet is having me call back at 4 o'clock to see how she does with the hydration and than he'll decide if we need to send out her blood to check into other things. For right now, he's suspecting that she might have ingested an insect or poison...the latter is what I'm really worried about since our neighborhood has been plagued with rats with all the new building of houses in our area...scary Has anyone had experience with rat posion? I was just wondering what the symptoms would be. Her diarrhea was soooo foul smelling and so was her vomit. Infact, her stools and her vomit were really "grainy", too...almost like "sand"...does that sound odd? Oh well, if anyone has any thoughts...I'd appreciate hearing any! Please keep Bella in your thoughts today...

| One sick little girl and glad you got her to the vet this morning. Gizmo ate rat poison and is being monitored (there is a thread and it was posted last week). Will be watching for your update. Warmly, Deborah

| Quote: A few years ago, my neighbor's dog picked up a rat to bring to the back door to show her...and that was it for Princess...she was gone within 24 hrs. Turned out, that the Telephone company, would hang rat bait on the lines to keep the rats from chewing on them (lines).

| Just wondering if the appearance of the sand-like grainy grit in her vomit is an indication of anything....oh well, I'll run that past the Vet this afternoon when I call back. Thanks for all your well wishes...I really appreciate them

| A Bella Update.... Well, I called the Vet's office at 4 o'clock and the nurse told me that Bella had been sleeping most of the day. They gave her two injections as well as the IV for hydration. The vomiting has ceased...yeh...but, the diarrhea continues...ick! So, our Vet called me this evening to let me know that because she's still straining and having diarrhea he's going to keep her overnight, continue IV hydration, send out her blood, and see how she does tomorrow. He said they attempted to feed her tonight...she refused at first but, with some coaxing she did eat a little...and then promptly let it all out. I was kind of surprised that they would feed her already...oh well He's said he's kind of leaning towards the idea that she may have ingested an insect but, wants the blood results to make sure nothing else isn't missed. Has anyone here ever had a dog eat a bee? Thanks again for the well-wishes & I'll update on my amazing (explosive) lil' Bella tomorrow...

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Mine have never eaten a bee....but I think Diggy's career of choice is exterminator. He eats anything that moves in the house. He is so good he can catch a fly in mid-air....then chomp chomp chomp....My kids yell ewwww Diggy ate another fly, I always say oh well a lil extra protein. I guess I never though of the fly making him sick?? Its not like I encourage it, nor can I stop a fly from sneaking in. I guess I will have to get a fly swatter??? I pray Bellas poo gets firmer and she comes home all better!

Grit like substance in his lower intestestines. Hospitalized for four days.Vet was pretty sure it might have been the nyla bone he had been chewing on or the pesticides that was put down a couple of days before his illness. I thought of rat poison also around the garbage sheds but vet said he would have died and not survived from eating that. Does she chew on these types of bones? Praying for a complete recovery. | |
