| Milligrams versus cc’s Surfie is ten pds, I did a search on Benadryl and I read to give 1 ml per 5 pounds. So, he needs 2 mls, my eye dropper is by cc's, so how much do I give. Sorry for the question but I don't want drug him out. If someone could tell me by cc's or tsp, I would appreciate it. Signed, Brain Dead

| It depends on what form of benadryl you are using. Look on the back of the package to see how much Diphenhydramine HCl is in each dose. The recommended dosage for dogs is 0.5 - 1.0 mg per pound. For example, the children's liquid benadryl contains 12.5 mg per 5 ml (or 2.5 mg for every 1 ml). So the correct dosage would be 0.2 - 0.4 ml per pound. For a 10 lb dog that would be 2.0 - 4.0 ml (ml is the same as cc). Or you could use the children's chewable tablets (12.5 mg per tablet) and give him 3/8 - 3/4 of one. Hope that makes sense and doesn't just confuse you more.

Switched their food from Royal Canine which they loved, to Innova Evo which they hate. Surfie now has a rash by his little peepee and under his arms which he is constantely licking, looks like a heat rash to me, hello you're in A/C all day! I am putting neosporin on it which he immediately licks off. So, I decided to try Benadryl, knocked them out so the licking stopped, today they both have diarrhea. I assume from the Benadryl as I changed their food last week, so no Benadryl for them today........ To top it off, their Dr. is on vacation through next week. Poor dolls.........

| I think you should call the Vets office for the proper dose. Reason being...It's very confusing as to how to give. Yes (ml) is the same as (cc) But as far as benedryl dose goes, for Roxy who is 5 lbs this is what she gets per day. Chewables 1/2 pill (3 times a day) ...OR... Dye Free Liquid 2.5 ml or cc (3 times a day) |
