| Update: Bogey's Liver Hi everyone, I'm sure some of you remembered me posting about my sister's three year-old male Yorkie Bogey and his seizures. Well on his first acid bile test the results were 15.4 on a normal scale of 15. Well initially one would think it wasn't his liver but my sister took him to the specialist anyway. They performed an ultrasound and another acid bile test. On his second Acid bile test his results came back at 49.9 on a scale of 15. In addition, the vet said that it sounded like he had a lot of "sludge" in his liver. He goes in next Monday for a surgery consultation, and if necessary they will go in a perform a liver biopsy on Tuesday. Otherwise he will be put on medicine if they don't think the biopsy is necessary. Has anyone ever had to go through this with their yorkie? is a liver biopsy the first step to having to get liver shunt surgery?

| My thoughts are with you, your sister and sweet Bogey. Has the vet discussed with her that it could also be something related to the gall bladder? I hope everything checks out OK. Keep us updated!

| It sounds like they did a doppler ultrasound, and that's why the vet heard the sludge. The sludge sounds like your sister's yorkie could have MVD, which is multiple small shunts in the liver which are not repairable through surgery...But a liver biopsy would confirm that. Good luck to your sister and Bogey. Please continue to keep us updated.

| One question though...Why is there only one number? Normally vets will do a pre-meal test and a post-meal test in order to get a more accurate idea of what's going on in there.

| Update Just a quick update on Bogey: My sister went and talked with the surgeon on Monday and she has decided that she is going to wait about 3 weeks and have another acid bile test done since, the first one was only slightly above normal and the second one was high. The vet thinks its best to wait and do a third test to make sure that it really is the liver before going in and and doing a liver biopsy.

| sallen15, did they do a pre-meal blood draw and a post-meal blood draw? You only posted one number, and there should be two. I hope the vet did both pre and post tests...

| Yeah they did a pre and a post blood test, my sister never told me what his pre-test levels were. I know on his first test they were slighly elevated at 7.6 or something. But I'm not sure about on the 2nd test. I'll try and find out from my sister. (theres been a lot going on with our family this week, our 88 year-old Grandma broke her hip and just had surgery on it)

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sounds like a good idea. Cali had 2 bile acid tests ,then the ultrasound and then the liver biopsy that showed a very mild MVD that needed no treatment.

| Another Update on Bogey Well...this isn't exactly in reference to all the tests that he has had done for his liver...but on Sunday night my sister had to take Bogey to the emergency CARE Center...he had been having diarhea all day and even had an accident in their bed...the emergency vet gave them some prescription diet bland canned food to feed him. So on Monday my sister dropped Bogey off at our vet and they observed him and said that it was most likely due to the heat (we've had temperatures in the upper 90's to 100's the past week or so). So she has been feeding him the bland dog food and he was doing better but has been still getting diarhea...not sure if this is still due to the heat or if maybe it has something to do with his liver. What do y'all think?
