| tail chewing, scratching, crying at night, tapping feet...9 week old puppy Last night my puppy woke up and started to cry excessively. At first, I thought it was just begging for attention so I ignored it. Later it started to chew its tail (you can hear a faint sound) and did some weird feet tapping thing and then proceeded to scratch with its legs. It kept on doing this once in awhile, but then it stopped. She would also keep on running to a specific closed door in the basement and cry next to it. At the moment, the puppy isn't crying, but she does chew her paws and tails and also scratches herself. Is this a case of fleas? She was just seperated from its mother a few days ago. Is this a case of fleas, allergies or just she's just missing her mom? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Could be a flee reaction, allergies, skin issue - all coupled w/ a new home too. I'd get her to the vet asap, bc it sounds like she might be miserable about something that's ailing her. Have you looked closely at her skin? Any bumps, redness, hair loss, discoloration?

| aww, poor baby. If she is chewing at herself, something is irritating her. If she was just scared and lonely, she would just cry and whine. Is she on flea meds already? A vet check sounds like a good idea

The poor pup. If you do not see any fleas (do not give her flea meds without vet's approval, she's a tiny pup) it could be stress or allergy reaction to something she is walking or laying on. Did you bathe her yet? What shampoo did you use if you did? What about food? Was that added after you brought her home, perhaps a new food. I would go to the vet. She is too tiny to experiment with. Good luck, I hope she get's relief . | |

| Otis chewed his tail and licked his front paws, he was diagnosed with hayfever and is now on pills twice daily. He didn't scratch himself though and he didn't cry. Good luck, I hope the baby starts feeling better.

| I would also ask what you wash your floors with...I have a girl that could not tolerate pinesol or clorex floor cleaning. She broke out in a rash.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree with everyone - check her for fleas - no puppy should cry like that and she must have something causing it...poor baby. You can check on her head right above the eyes - look for 'flea dirt' and also on her tummy - especially around the groin area - oh and ps - NO Commercial Flea remedies - if you do see any fleas - take that baby to the vet ok ?? GOOD LUCK !!! |

| Well, I haven't washed my floor for around 2 weeks. Not sure about the brand... We did, however, bring her out on a walk last night and she would stop moving, lay down and her tail would move REALLY fast. She also kept chewing on random things on the grass [i mostly thought it was just grass she was eating]. So far, no red spots, discoloration, bald spots or such. She didn't lick her paws. More like chewing on them. Not aggresively to the point she bleeds. Not on flea meds and I haven't washed her yet. I'll give it more time, I guess. |
