Default Possible Head trauma... :( :(

yesterday was the worst day ever... can easily be the worst fathers day of my life.

Little missy and I were playing around with each other, and she went underneath the coffee table, she saw my clip in my hand and she decided to attack my hand (its like a small banana clip, with like teeth-lookalike) well, missy likes attacking those clips whenever she notices one.... and unfortunately she jumped right at my hand and the clip clipped onto her little paw and she barked in pain and i believe she was scared from the incident (she was underneath the table when this happened) and she JUMPED up, backwards and i believe hit her head hard on the bottom-top of the coffee table and she just froze.... her eyes were open, and her tongue was hanging out of her mouth.... it was literally white... i freaked out, my sister freaked out, and my pa rents took missy and tried giving her water and my mom took the holy water out of the refrigerator and rubbed some onto missy's face and put it on her tongue.... they drove her to the emergency clinic right away because they knew she was still alive, since her heart was beating still.... but apparently we didn't find her breathing which led me and my sister to freak out even more. Missy then woke up in the car, and was blinking, started licking my mom, and she wanted to sleep right beside my sister, so she got up.... but she was somewhat wobbly. They eventually got to the clinic and one of the vet's said it is pretty uncommon for her to react like that.... is that even true?

anyways, she stayed overnight at that emergency clinic, we picked her up like an hour & 1/2 ago and had to bring her Vet...

the emergency clinic took blood tests and all these other stuff.... came up to around 800 bucks, and she will be getting x-rays, and possibly staying over at the vets... which will be 250 bucks. The blood test was taking last nite but it hasnt even been picked up to be transported to the lab or something... i was disappointed about that. I am having a reallyy stressful time couping with this. Has anyone experienced this situation--related to this, or know of someone who has experienced this? Please keep her in your prayers.... please.

What do you guys believe will happen? can this eventually be cured, if in fact it is a head trauma.... I just hope theres no bleeding... this is so sad and depressing... arghh

I really can't stop crying for her, because shes so small.... she just recently had spayed, so that was a depressing time for her...and now this?? how much more can this little girl take.... it's so sad, i feel so bad...i really. Poor baby ....

If there was bleeding in the head, guys... wouldnt she be bleeding, possibly, from her nose or ears??

She wasn't bleeding at all, just went into some sudden shock... stiff as ROCK--literally! it honestly looked like she had died guys.... scariest moment ever! i went insane in the house, while everyone was looking after Missy (my mother, who has never really been interested in pets--usually afraid of them) was so GOOD with Missy... she was so cool & calm, and just praying---putting holy water on her... continued to pet her and care & love for her.... as well as my father... he was holding his head---was totally losing his mind as well, because they LOVE her so much guys... she's like their daughter to them, seriously. Seeing that PICTURE of her lying on the floor, stiff as a rock, with her eyes and tongue out was scary as hell.... Just thinking about it makes me cry, and million of goosebumps keep running over my body. Please God help Missy recover safely!!!

We've asked the Vets questions as well, but we aren't getting the best answers--- i am not satisfied nor 100% relieved yet... i need YT help and comfort!

Oh honey, I'm so sorry! How scary for you. I think it's a very, very good sign that she "woke up" while you were still on the way to the ER. It could be an acute head trauma that will resolve quickly. Sort of like a football player that hits his head, is knocked out, needs some recovery time, but comes back full force after a few days.

Please keep us posted and I'm wishing the very best for you!

Default Hope your baby is better

Perhaps, she had a concussion. A momentary loss of conciousness is one of the symptoms of a severe concussion in a human. I guess it would be the same in dogs. They are just like children, no matter how much you protect them, stuff will happen. I would think that hitting the coffee table would not be a blow to the head that would be hard enough to cause a bleed in the brain.

No, blood usually stays pooled in the head. What kind of answers are you getting? Is she awake? What are her vital signs? What is her neurologic responsiveness (pupils etc)? Her reflexes?

I hope you get some answers.

She is awake, shes been awake half way to the VEC. I am not quite sure, because my sister and parents went... I couldn't go because I was too scared--- and still in major shock, after witnessing what happened to poor missy. Her eyes look the same, the Emergency vet did a test about touching her nose, and seeing if Missy will react to it... well Missy, knowing her, tends to just move her head back whenever someone touches it.... but he was mainly looking for her to lick it, and she eventually did 5 seconds later... She is still wobbly, but she knows us... still recognizes us. He is going to take X-rays (her main vet) and see whats going on.... my sister will be calling in soon. The emergency vet, who we kept calling for updates (they must of been extremely annoyed, oh WELL!) they kept saying each update, her progress is looking great.... So hopefully there is nothing serious and she recovers soon. I really do hope so, she is a strong little girl, i know she is.

The only difference I see big time, is her breathing... it seems to be faster, and not too good.

I think these are REALLY good signs! And the vet saying "progress is looking great" is an EXcellent sign! I'm really hopeful for her - it truly sounds like an acute situation. She may have hit her head in just the right spot to cause a trauma...but an acute trauma.

Yes---I hope so. It wasn't that HARD the hit... but we knew she hit it when she jumped from the clip, clipping onto her paw. Poor baby freaked out... all because of me. I kept cursing at myself, I even broke that stupid pathetic clip and threw it away, I couldn't stand looking at it.

Like Wylie's Mom said, the football comparison. I surely hope it is some minor thing. I am just feeling for her so much, because she's been out of the Vet's place just last week, and now she's back!

Thank you all for the wishes & prayers-- I really do appreciate it, and these answers are making me feel much better!!!! My power upstairs,w asnt working, due to stupid construction...so I was really peeved off cause I wanted to come on and get some answers & comfort from you all. You guys are always great help. Thank you.

OMG. Poor Missy! I hope everything is okay with her. I know you feel bad, but you took care of the situation as best you could. I'll say a prayer for your baby. XO

Thank you hun I truly do feel bad. I feel like a horrible owner. I am so sorry for the pain I have caused her. I shouldn't have had that clip on my hand.... ugh, why?? You guys don't understand how scary and dreadfrul it was to see her stiff as a rock like that.... negative thoughts were scattering all over my head.... I was going crazy, and I've had for only 4 months now. I hope she comes home soon.... real soon.

We just called. The blood test hasn't arrived yet, and the X-rays have been taken. Front receptionist is waiting for the Vet & the results.
