Confused Lump on Penis- Help!

When I got home today, and took Mickey out of his ex-pen... he rolled over on his back for me to rub his tummy (as always) and I noticed a lump on his penis. It almost looks like a mosquito bite, but it is kinda hard- pea sized. It is closer to the tip. I touched it and it does not appear to hurt him at all. All other functions are normal, he is eating, peeing, pooping, playing just fine. He got his 2nd Lyme shot yesterday- but I dont see how that would have anything to do with it (but of course you never know). I think I will drop by the vet with him 2morrow and see what he has to say- but in the mean time... any idea what this could be??? Mickey is just over 5 months.... not yet neutered. Any takers....??? Please? I somehow managed to get a picture......

Newman had a small lump on his penis. It turned out to be a small abcess. An abcess can come from anything even a little bug bite. I would put a warm as warm as he can stand it without burning him compress on it, gently sqeeze and see if you can get anything out of it and then put neosporin on it. I would take him to the vet though for an antibiotic. Hope this helps. Elaine

What about calling the vet - I know Murphy had a spot like that on his eye once and they gave me some antibiotic ointment to put on it and it was gone in a week.

Default Similar Situation

Spike had his neuter surgery two weeks ago (June 5th), and this past Tuesday he went to the groomers (June 19th). We had no problems post-surgery, I checked his incision site twice daily and everything looked fine.

Yesterday, I noticed a red area near his incision site. It seems to be weeping a clear fluid, and seems quite hard to the touch (although this might be normal, I can't say I know for sure). I put some antibiotic ointment on it, and it seemed better this morning, although still there! I put some more on before I left for work. We were at the off-leash park on Thursday, and there have been lots of mosquitos lately! I'm wondering if this happened at the groomers, if this is a bug bite, or if something else is going on.

He seems fine otherwise - peeing, poop, eating and drinking, acting as normal. Any thoughts - the vets are closed today!?!

This is like what Mickey had a few weeks ago. And actually he went to the groomer just about a week before the bump turned up. I was paniced, and was going to take him to the vet- but it cleared up in just a few days. I would keep an eye on it for a day or two, and if it doesnt go away, give the vet a call.

Glad to hear Mickey's "hoo hoo" is better. Don't you just love the names we give private parts?

Default An update!

Just an update on Spike - he was a bit lethargic yesterday and this morning, so he went to the vet to get checked out. Apparently he does have an infection - the vet thinks it was caused by the knot from his neuter stitches. Apparently the knot takes longer to dissolve (if your vet uses the absorbable stitches), and it started to irritate him and became infected. Anyway, he's on Clavamox (an antibiotic), and I'm supposed to apply some ointment and keep him from licking. Total vet cost - $17! I am happy and relieved - I was getting a somewhat worried about the little guy!

I'm glad you took Spike to the vet. These guys are so small and things can go bad very quickly.

I am so glad that you took Spike to the vet and prevented him from getting really sick. Excellent information to share and thanks. Sorry about the amount of the vet bill, but it is part of the territory, isn't it? Charlie's initial new vet visit was $387, his dental in July will be over $1,000. My plan is less lunches out, and fewer Starbuck lattes cause he is worth it.
