Default Gucci is constipatedd..i think?

I have no idea how this happened, but he woke me up this morning at about 8:40 like, crying trying to poop. His butt was blocked with like a hard patch of poop. It was really hard, well I was in the process of removing it, and i found bits of green and red, but I think it`s from the milkbones I feed him daily. Anyway, my mom gave him something to poop because he hasn`t pooped since yesterday afternoon. :/. She said if he dosen`t poop by 12 he`s going to the vet. Also, his rectum looks kinda flipped out. There`s something pink kinda sticking out. >_< My poor baby. Should I just wait to take him to the vet? It`s 10 am now.

I take Diggy to the sink.....run warn water over his whole bottom and massage his bum. Sounds gross but moms stimulate babies by licking down there so not too unatural. He squirms like he doesnt like it but I towel dry his butt then go outside.....he goes everytime. Try it! worth a try. Let us know what happens.

This happened to my pup shortly after I got him, and he had to have an enema but it helped and he's done fine since. I wouldn't wait too long because it can be really bad for them. Also the pink flap you're talking about is a prolapse (i think that's what it's called???) and my vet gave me some stuff to rub on kobi's behind (yeah...YUM) for the prolapse because if it gets worse, they will need to do surgery. SO please, please, please don't wait too long!! Good luck and let us know how everything turns out!

my vet told me to give skoshi vegetable oil or cooking oil, just a little and it slickens their insides so he can poop

hehh yeah. well, i didn`t take him. The reason why is because, my mom`s friend, A.K.A. the owner of Gucci`s sister told me that her dog had the same thing and she took him to the vet nd he told her to give her some Karo. I went to the store and bought Karo. He pooped once about 30 mins. ago, and it was very little. Also, that pink flap thing is still out kinda. I don`t know if I should take him or not?

Yes, you should have taken him to the vet. I have never heard of using Karo for a problem like that. I have only heard of using Karo for hypoglycemia. Gucci has tissue hanging out that could be rectal or small intestinal. At this point, this tissue is going to start to dry or die which means surgery whereas if you can get him to vet in time, the vet may be able to push it back in if it is rectal. You should get him to a vet ASAP and that probably means an emergency vet now. See the following excerpt regarding rectal prolapse.

Early treatment is crucial. If the tissue appears to still be alive and not too traumatized, your veterinarian will try to push it back into normal position. A suture is then placed around the anus to make sure the tissue does not come out again. The suture must be loose enough to allow stool to pass out. This suture is generally left in for 48 hours and then removed.

If the rectal tissue is dried, severely traumatized or appears to be dead, surgery will need to be performed to amputate the damaged part of the intestine. The remaining tissue of the large intestine is sutured to the anus. Surgery may also be necessary if the prolapse returns after attempting to push it back inside and suturing.

It is best to avoid surgery since amputation of the rectum is fraught with complications. Serious infection and fecal incontinence can occur. Animals treated with surgery have a guarded to poor prognosis.

Good Luck! Hope he gets better soon. Give us an update on what the vet says. Hopefully it is not serious.

I'm a pediatric nurse and we tell moms to give babies karo syrup and water for skin babies constipation, but I never heard of it for dogs...guess it works. What I have heard is giving dogs a tablespoon of canned pumpkin. Hope he's doing better...let us know what the vet says about his little pooper.
