| treacle unwell, advice needed please!! Hi all, Desperate for some advice as unsure what to do! When treacle (2yr old) went in the garden yesterday she passed a log and then a small amount of very soft faeces. Today my daughter took her for a walk and came back quite quickly saying that she had passed only liquid. I have just seen her crouch in the garden and what she has passed is unusual. Faeces is light brown, but when examined (using gloves) it is quite mucousy and stretcy???? (body waste doesnt bother me Im a midwife!!!!). She seems well in herself, still running around, still eating and drinking, although the odd quieter period. Unsure what to do really so hoped someone could give me some advice! THanks in advance |

| Sorry I have no great advise, could it be something she ate, and just needs time to pass...had she been constipated at all before this? Sometimes when they pass a firmer stool...what comes out next will be softer, with mucous and liquid. Sounds like maybe a case of colitis possibly. Or maybe you should take the stool to your vet...I don't really know what else to offer.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Hopefully it is something she ate. If she seems fine, I would feed her a little hamburger or chicken and rice and make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. If she is still sick in the morning take herr in. JMO Hope she feels better soon

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Their little systems are so sensitive, almost anything can cause loose BMs as you describe. She may even have gotten into something in the garden. As long as she's no worse, I wouldn't worry. Take the previous advice and try a bland diet and see if that helps her adjust. (Or try the pumpkin or cheese option that many YTers recommend to help solidify things.) As long as she is eating and drinking, not getting lethargic, and not vomitting, I can't imagine it's anything really serious. But, if her condition changes in any way, definitely get her into the vet. Good luck! |

| thanks for your replys. Treacle actually got worse this morning and vomited. She then refused all food and became quite lethargic. This afternoon she saw the vet and was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, she was given 2 injections, an anti inflammatory for the pain and one to stop the diarrhoea. We also have to give her oral tabs for the next five days. She picked up really well within an hour and has now eaten some chicken and rice. She has passed one small stool since the vets, almost black and still loose but not as bad, I assume this will improve. Thanks again D x |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Sorry to hear that Treacle ended up getting worse, but it sounds like she is on the mend now. Ozzie had HGE, a bloody form of gastroenteritis, earlier this year. It's a nasty illness indeed. Thoughts and prayers headed your way for a speed recovery. Good luck! |

| So sorry to hear she got to feeling worse, you made the right decision taking her to the vet...hopefully she'll recover nicely and quickly!!! Don't know what meds she's taking, but some of those especially for the tummy and bowels can make the stools dark, watch her, to be sure she's not bleeding. Wish her well...poor little thing...keep us updated, please.
