| Merlin Update (Long) Thanks for all of the responses to my original post. I finally got the numbers on the bile acid test. Pre was 1 and Post was 40. My regular vet is off today and I DESPISE the vet there today - he told me without much information about Merlin that he had a brain tumor and I should just get used to the idea. I did call the neurologist and he talked to the dumb fill in vet and they agreed he doesn't have a liver problem because 40, while out of normal range, is not high enough for it to be MVD or anything like that. So he really wants us to do a spinal tap and CT. We really don't have that kind of money right now and he is doing better - no more episodes. He is still more tired than usual in the mornings, but gets perky during the day. For those that were concerned about him being on Phenobarbital - we only used that for 1 day and then the neurologist said he didn't think they were true seizures, so we stopped it. He is on antibiotic (Clavamox) and steroids (Prednisone) to try and treat a possible inner ear infection we can't see because the neurologist thinks this is a balance problem. I feel like I am at my wits end with all of this. It is like we are back at square one with no idea what's wrong with him. I rescued Merlin 4 years ago and he hasn't had nearly enough time being truly loved. I just want to make him better, but I don't know how. I feel like a failure as a mom. My whole world is protecting my little man and I don't feel like I am doing a very good job. |

| I'm sorry about your Merlin! I hope you can find where his problems are coming from...But I just want to let you know that a 40 post meal for the bile acid test CAN indicate MVD. I know several yorkies who have been diagnosed with MVD with results of under 100...There's a group of very knowledgable people on this group regarding liver shunts and mvd. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ Please join this group and tell them your situation. They will be more than happy to help.

| I am so very sorry that Merlin is having problems. It sounds like he is a real trooper and that he is one brave Yorkie Soul doing the best he can do. It sounds like you are doing more than anyone could ever ask of you as far as taking care of Merlin. He is so very lucky to have you in his life. Sending hugs to you |
