| Addisons............ My little girl is in the hospital, going on day 5, she was deathly ill, diagnosed today with addisons disease. She will hopefully be able to come home tomorrow. Does anybody elses yorkie have this? I am heartbroken as she is 3 1/2 and I was all set to breed her this next heat for the first time. Sad, but thats okay, I am so GRATEFUL that she is going to be okay. It has been awful. I always wonder how everybody does it when their yorkie is sick or injured thinking I would just die, I can't believe this happened to us. So awful having to leave your baby at the vet hospital, but I was able to go visit her several times, so that was good. Poor baby!!

| I'm very sorry to hear about your baby's illness! Addison's is very treatable. I went through tons of tests with an Endocrinologist because they thought I had that or Cushing's. Addison's means her adrenal glands ( 2 glands above her kidneys) don't produce enough Cortisol, which is a hormone that fluctuates throughout the day in a healthy person or dog. She'll have to take medicine for the rest of her life and maybe even corticosteroids (used most commonly for asthma) but with maintenance medicine it will be very easy for her to lead a normal life. Make sure and ask the doctor lots of questions, good luck and if you need anything, please let me know! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear that. Maya has Cushings which is she is producing too much cortisol so the treatment tries to kill off enough of the adrenal glands too control the cortisol production. One of the complications is killing off too much and then she would have Addison's disease which you treat with steroids. It is scary trying to get them to the right level but I understand they can live a normal life with both diseases. Good luck I will keep you both in my prayers.

| Thank you so much everyone!! I brought her home today, and first thing she wanted food! That was awesome as she hasnt eaten in a week and has been very picky for the last month or two. That is a difficult symptom because she had labs done when she had a dental cleaning about 2 months back and everything was fine; I thought she was just being a spoiled yorkie She actually played with my other yorkie, Sachi so that is just great! She is more lethargic and pooped out than usual, but of course she is very thin and has been so ill, so I guess that is to be expected. I am staying home tomorrow just to keep an eye on her and make sure everything is okay as I am still nervous and worried about her. Again, thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes, very much appreciated!
