Evie is throwing up Yellow-Please HELP - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Friday morning my little girl went to get Evie out of her room and said she saw something yellow in on Evie's blanket. I checked and it was throw up - no food - just yellow bile-like with a little foam and mucus look. I thought something just did not settle with her well and would watch her that day. She played fine, but did not eat well. She started doing this hacking thing Friday evening, but only when she got excited or right after drinking. Then, Saturday she was fine; however she did not eat well again. She played good and took good naps. She did not seem upset or in pain. She did the hacking thing again that evening. Yesterday, found the vomit again. Same color same everything. She did the hacking again on and off maybe four times or so throughout the day. Again this morning found more vomit. She has not really ate well at all - a little here and a little there. I do have her an appointment this today to see vet, but wanted you all to give me your advice first. Evie is 9months old and weighs about 2.9lbs. Thanks.

Cali had that when her tummy was empty. So I feed her 3 times a day. Hope she feels better.

Yellow is usually an indicator of infection, especially if it's thick -- like if you dropped part of an egg yolk on the floor. (In our case, it's usually been an ear infection.)

We went through this with both Yorkies we've had in the past 20 years, especially during the first year or two.

oh poor baby. . . ."he thinks"? You mean he does not know if it is indeed bronchitis? Well let's hope his guess is correct

Tiger has had that before too, but occassionally and often just once.

I think they throw up yellow when nothing is in their tummy to throw up, but their still sick. It's like stomach acid. I hope she gets better., Rocky and I send her get well wishes!

If it's really thin and foamy, I've had this tons of times with my little one. It's generally bile that they throw up when their tummies get empty. if she doesn't want to eat on her own , you have to find a way to make her eat. Pay with her food, pretend it's a treat, put a teeny sprinkle of parmesan on it, feed her cooked hamburger and rice if nothing else. Is it happpening just in the morning ? Pay attention to when it happens in relation to the last time she's been fed. By adult yorkie gets 4 mini meals a day to make sure this doesn't happen. Sometimes if she absolutely refuses to eat put a dab of honey, corn syrup or nutrical in her mouth...that should perk her up enough that she will eat after if you coax her....good luck!

Our little girl has been a poor eater since we got her and many times she's thrown up foamy stuff in the morning if she didn't eat something the night before so that her tummy isn't empty. In fact, it was whenever she didn't eat substantially that she would most balk at eating, probably because an empty tummy made her feel nauseated. (Strangley enough, my daughter had the same problem when she was little, so it just seemed obvious to me.) If she picks at her food (usually we feed her fours small meals a day of soft food) then we spread a little dab of liverwurst on each piece. She usually licks the plate clean when we do that. You will probably have to make sure that your puppy eats substantially every four hours to six hours. But most importantly, you must make sure that your puppy eats shortly before going to bed, so that there is no early morning nausea.

If you can't get your puppy to eat on her own, then you may have to resort to coaxing her to eat by getting something into her until she doesn't feel nauseated and can eat on her own. We make up a bowl of mush that we keep in the refrigerator and warm up for those times that our puppy hasn't eaten in a long while, (someone on this forum got the recipe from their breeder) and doesn't want to eat. It's a mixture of the following:

1/2 cup half-and-half
1/2 cup instant baby cereal (rice goes down well, but oatmeal will do)
1 whole jar of Gerber's strained meat (anything but turkey)
1/2 tsp. karo syrup (maple syrup if no karo is available)

Just warm up the half-and-half and stir in the cereal until it gets thick, then add the strained meat and karo syrup. We use a plastic syringe like they make for giving medication to babies and is available at the drug store. One full syringe is one teaspoon so we fill it up 3-4 times. Make sure the mush is only luke warm. Insert the syringe into the corner of your pyuppy's mouth and gradually squeeze the syringe. Our dog likes it so much now, she will usually lick it off the syringe.

Thank you all for your concerns and helpful information. I knew I could count on you all to help me. She has not been sick since yesterday; however, she has only gone #2 one time since early yesterday. She does not have a good bit of food on her tummy and that is probably why. She did eat a small amount last night so that probably helped with her tummy not being empty. She did not eat this morning, so I put it in her room with her hoping she will eat it before I return home around lunch. Thank you all again, I will keep you posted.
