| Vixxen will not eat or drink!!!! Guys....my 3 year old does this every once in a while. I have not been able to figure out why, but I have at least figured a way to 'make' her start eating. Before I figured out what to do, she was actually hospitalized twice because she will stop eating/drinking and also throw up bile. I don't have to tell everyone how quickly they can dehydrate so I would panic and take her in! She hasn't eaten since last night....after they ate that yummy chicken, brown rice, peas and cottage cheese I made them! She woke up and would not eat anything and I even tried the same mixture. The 'trick' I learned is to squish up toddler hotdogs and MAKE her lick even the smallest amount off my finger....it seems to entice her to want more and then she will go for her regular kibble. This morning she would not take the hotdog!! She's never done that! So I stopped trying to force her and let her be. She's been interested in eating grass today...don't know what that means either? She has been laying on the ceramic floor today alot and also wondering around the house in weird places that she never goes to and just totally out of character for her today!! I am wondering what the underlying cause could be for this and I don't know what to do!! HELP!! Do these symtoms sound like anything you guys know of?? The times she was hospitalized I know they ran tests/blood work and whatever else...but nothing??

| Did this start before or after the pet food recall. Cuz it sounds just like what my mother in laws cat started doing after it ate recalled food. So just thought id ask? not trying to worry you. |

| If you have any tums in the house, you could give a quarter of one to settle the tummy or a little bit of pepto.

| If she eats kibble, it's probably not the pet food recall thing. More likely she's got an upset tummy. Everyone gets those now and then, even humans. Has she been eliminating regularly? Our babygirl won't eat when she's constipated. So usually we can get her to eat a small handful of honeynut cheerios which, because of the fiber, seem to help loosen her up. Or if that fails, I've heard feeding them canned pumpkin will help. She may be wandering around in strange places looking for somewhere to do her business, since she is feeling bloated (if that is indeed the reason at all). Also, we have a really good trick to get our little girl to eat when she's feeling peckish. We put a tiny dab of liverwurst on each piece of her food. Of course she eats soft food, so it's easier because we are talking about chunks rather than kibble. But you might give it a try. Liverwurst is the one thing that is almost totally irresistable to dogs apparently. Professional trainers use it to get their showdogs to do just about anything. Oh, and then we also have a backup emergency mush we make that was posted on this forum. It works great when fed from a syringe and they won't eat anything else. 1/2 cup half and half (or goat's milk for easy digestability) 1/2 cup instant baby cereal (rice is a good choice, but we've used oatmeal as well for extra fiber) 1 whole jar Gerber's baby meat (no turkey) 1 tsp. karo syrup (or maple syrup if no karo is availble) Warm up the half-and-half and mix the cereal in, add the jar of meat and tsp. syrup. Add a little water if too stiff. Mix well and feed by syringe to start. Usually once they get started they will eat it voluntarily. |

| Thanks guys. It is not the recall scare - 1) she hasn't had canned, and 2) this problem has been happening most of her 3 years I can usually "make" her start to eat by almost forcing my finger in her mouth with a tiny bit of baby hotdog...but this time she was adement about not taking it and turned her head. I can hear her tummy making noises! She seems to have eliminated normally yesterday. She does have horrible GAS after feeding my cooked meal - I kept trying last night and literally had to force my finger in her mouth so she could taste the hotdog! After a taste or two, she eats on her own? Its weird. Then I fed her some Bryers natural vanilla ice cream and she gobbled it down. AND THEN I made her the same dinner and she ate it up. She is still being lazy this morning so not sure if she is eating today or what. What is liverwurst?? I know that sounds silly, but I've never had it...where do I find it at the store? Isn't it a mushy type of meat? It sounds better for her than hotdogs!! I'd like to check it out... Thanks for all your input....I just wish I knew what causes this in her!!!

| Liverwurst is usually sold right next to the bologna and other sandwich sliced meats at the grocery store in the deli section. It's a liver paste kind of spread you use to put on sandwiches or crackers. Smells quite strong, in fact my puppy and cat both lick my fingers if I've gotten any on them and haven't rinsed well. |

| Hey MB!!! Peanut did the same thing when we first got Allie. She would not eat and just moped around for days. I think once Momiji goes home today that Vixxen will go back to being herself. She is in excellent hands with a mom like you!!! Hang in there !!!
