5th day of vomiting after shots My little Chili who is 14 weeks old went to the vet on Tuesday and received a round of bordettella shots with a benadryl shot. When I got him home he was very sleepy and vomited later that evening. The next day, Wednesday, he was very clingy to me and licking alot and he vomited around 2:30pm so I took him back to the vet and he received centrine shot and pills to take at home for his vomiting and the vet said it was probably due to stress from giving him the shots all in one round. When I got him home, he began sneezing and his appetite minimized. Thursday he seemed okay till around 8:30 when he vomited again and started his sneezing again and worse than before. Friday was really bad with both sneezing, dry heaving and then vomited 7 times. I spoke with the vet who wanted me to bring him back in but I refused because everytime I take him, he comes home worse and the stress from all the poking and temp taking etc just seems to be too much. I have decided to keep him home for the weekend and see if it runs it's course before I decide to see another vet on Monday if needed. Now, it's Saturday afternoon and he has vomited 2 times this morning and is not eating or drinking and his sneezing is about 50% better. I orally force feed him Pedialyte and he licks a little nutri-cal but he is not eating his normal food and water and for sure not enough of it. He is sleeping tremendously and seems to sometimes have fast breath followed by slow breaths. I just want to get my fun puppy back the way he was before these shots. I am extremely worried about him and am noticing him starting to scratch and shed. I am doing my best to keep nutrition in him but nothing solid seems to be appealing. I am a new pet owner and a little freaked out by all this. Help! Last edited by rebel; 03-24-2007 at 02:47 PM.

So sorry to hear what you're going through. I'm sure you're scared. Keep doing what you're doing. It may be a slow recovery, the pedialyte will help tremendously. The only other thing I'd recommend is the old stand by of boiled chicken, it's bland and appealing. Some vet recommend hamburger meat. Also rice as the side is good. Bless his heart, we'll be thinking of you.

That's all of vomit for a very young puppy. I would be watching him every second. If he vomits again, I'd be off to the emergency hospital. PLEASE force pedilyte - this is so important to keep him hydrated.

He has been overloaded in medicines now, so don't give him any more or let a Vet. give him more. He needs to get the toxins out of his body now, and the only way to do that is put him on a bland diet, give him Nutri-Cal and make sure he drinks bottled water or even chicken broth diluted down.

Making progress Chili had a pretty good dose of pedialyte and nutra cal this evening, he really perked up so he and I went across the street to Petsmart and got him a wet can. He loved the small portion I allowed him to have (not knowing if he could tollerate this on his tummy), he did really good and about an hour later had a small amount of vomit but it was smaller than his intake. We actually took two good walks this evening and I saw some of his puppy exploration and adorable face expressions for the first time in days. I really feel he is making progress. I am so glad to have found this web site and learned some great tips and Chili has support. Thanks so much and I will contimue to keep updates.

Update on Chili Well, I took Chili to Granbury animal hospital. My appt was at 9 and at 10 we were in the exam room waiting for the doctor when I noticed I was sitting in a crap load of some other pet?s hair. Really ticked me off since that was one of my complaints about the last vet and I told them that over the phone. They were a pretty big outfit with a really nice facility, but I had a concern with some of the cleanliness. I thought that maybe I was freaking out a bit or being irrational. Needless to say we left and went to another vet here in Granbury. My friend had been seeing Dr. Sawyer (vet#1 where all this started) and she was having similar problems with her s**tzu. She switched to Dr. Finley Tuesday and called me Wednesday with a good report, so after that happened at vet #2 we left and called Dr. Finley. I really loved her and the clinic was great, I like the way they treated Chili and they did x-rays etc., and he has a swollen tummy lining (most likely irritated from his vomiting), Gastritis, and a repertory infection that he more than likely caught at Vet#1's office that day of his shots. His gastritis is probably because he has not been eating and I have changed up his diet so much that has caused this gas to flare up, but it is also a symptom with the repertory infection which is going around in dogs and my vet #3 had seen a lot of cases of it. So, he's doing well and we got some antibiotics, some pepcid and I just have to tend to him allot because he does not always eat or drink on his own. I have to make sure he has so much or not too much and so forth. Yesterday was his 1st day of no vomiting and I think he sneezed 1 maybe 2 times. He is playing like his old self and back to my puppy that is so full of life and into all kinds of puppy trouble. I think I love and appreciate those moments now! Thanks to all who gave me great advise and thoughts and prayers. This web-site is my little life saver for my little guy!

That's great news, sounds like he's headed in the right direction. It's good that you found a vet that you're comfortable with. So glad he's starting tofeeling better.
