| Update on Babybear 3/12/07 Well hello Everyone, Nice to see everyone. Well It would be if there was anyone here.lol Just kidding. I know you all are busy with the furkids, but I hope this means all is okay with everyone and there babies. Well I got some news the other day I need to tell you all about. I took Babybear to the vets so we could see why he will not use his cart(wheelchair). Well I was informed that he has very bad nerve damage do to the broken neck back in July. ( For those of you that do not know about Babybear he is one of our AAI babies.) He went misdiagnosed/undiagnosed with this congenital defect in his neck.(AAI is Atlantoaxial Instability: Dogs with Congenital Atlantoaxial instability are born without ligament support to their atlantoaxial joint(vertabra area), and may also be born without dens. Trauma to the neck can also cause tearing of the ligaments or fracture of the dens, resulting in atlantoaxial instability.(AAI)) AAI can lead to cervical spinal cord injury, the symptoms of which include neck pain,a drunken staggering gait, paralysis of all four legs, or sudden death. Baby had the last two. Well after being told that he had really bad nerve damage I asked my vet if accupunture would be an option for him at this time. He told me funny you should ask that. Babybear's vet is becoming an accupunturest. He is going through training now. He said he needs a case to present to his teachers. And he doesn't have one yet. He asked if he could use Babybear this would mean that Babybear will get his accupunture for free. ( that is music to my ears) I agreed.. Other than that I have taken some video of Babybear during one of his swimming sessions. I do his water therapy and his physical therapy. He is not being hurt during this therapy. It looks like I am being rough but I am not. He is very much at ease when I am doing his left, right, left, right. He resists some but I want that so I know he is building muscle. I am sending the link to his video. I put it on Youtube.com so everyone can see it. I hope you all get a chance to go check it out. I am very proud of him. This video is taken at the end of his session. So he is getting tired very tired. Mind you it is done in my tub in a bucket. A big bucket. I will be taken more video in the next couple of days of him moving around the living room. He has been really trying to stand on those front legs again. I am hoping we can do some walking like this summer. That will be a joy. Well here is the link for you all to enjoy. | Wow... He's trying so hard for you! You are an amazing person and I admire your dedication in Babybear's rehab. So many would just give up but no not you! When we had Jewel going through her illness, we chose to try accupunture and I honestly felt it did her a lot of good. I've spoken to other owners who were bringing their furkids for treatments and the success stories were all so wonderful! I hope it helps Babybear's recovery too. This is the first I've read about his story. I can't wait to learn more about you guys! Thank you for sharing his story! I'm an Official Babybear Fan! Have you thought about getting him a life jacket so he can float and work his legs? He won't be able to flip over and Outward Hound makes them for small dogs. It should come in handy when you get your pool this summer.

| Oh yes we have a life jacket(from outword hounds) but with that he thinks he is safe and will not move his legs. So he just lays there in the water.lol he is a funny little man. This is why I thought he why he does not use his wheel chair was because he knew he didn't have to do anything and he was in the standing position and he is safe. But the doctors told me differantly. I just don't understand why he can move his legs in the front in water so well but when he is in his cart he can't and there is no pressure on his legs when I have it set up right. Time will tell I believe. Yes Babybear's story is here on the emergancy link and i have had all updates on this link also. They should be in the archives. It sure has been a long haul but he is well worth it. He is my baby and i would do anything for him. Thank you for being a Babybear fan. He is going to love hearing that. Val and Babybear

| How inspiring to see the dedication and love between you and BabyBear. He is such a little trooper. I pray the acupuncture helps him. If anyone deserves one of those miracles floating around out there, BabyBear (and you, of course) do. Keep getting better, BabyBear. We are all rooting for you.

| Bless you for your kind heart and all the love you are giving that sweet little baby bear. God works in mysterious ways dosen't he? Just when you needed help with his care there was your own vet training to give him the care he needs. Prayer's coming for both of you. Fingers crossed that the accupunture works for him. What a sad but heartwarming story. |

| Good I will keep them coming here. Thank you Corrinne. I will keep them here so people can learn about the congenital disease. I never thought of that. Have a great night. Val and Babybear

| Hi Val I watched Babybear on your link and it melted my heart!! Your dedication and unwavering love and support for Babybear is truly an inspiration!! I know how frustrating it can be certain days but all you have to do is look into those big brown eyes and you know it is all worth it. I am glad that can bring awareness about AAI/AAS to the group. Unless you have been through it like we have been, you really are never aware of such a terrible congenital defect. A little update on Sedrick...he has recently been able to stand on his back legs without the assistance of a couch to balance on!! He never ceases to amaze us with his little progesses. Babybear will overcome all his obstacles. Keep up the great work and remember that Sedrick can't wait to run and play with Babybear...that day will come soon Take Care Lorraine and Sedrick |

| Lorriane, Babybear can't wait to run with Sedrick either. I was telling my vet the other day about Sedrick. I keep trying to get hubby to let me get a new baby to play with babybear to get him up and going. Like you did for Sedrick. Hubby keeps saying no babies right now. No time right now with a new grandbaby on the way. So for now Babybear can't get in the mood to run around like Sedrick does. Sedrick you keep up the good work kiddo. I am so so happy for you and how everything is turning out with Sedrick that is so great. It is coming up on a year here soon isn't it?? Since Sedrick broke his neck also?? If my memory serves me right which it doesnt sometimes.lol I might have to get a girl baby to tease babybear with.lol See if he wants to get up and chase her.lol Well you know as soon as Babybear is better him and Sedrick are going to cruise the chicks so they both have to be single guys.lol Babybear just got his Doogles in the mail two weeks ago so he is ready for the sun to shine and cruise some chicks. you have a great day and give those babies of yours a big belly rub from Babybear and I. val and babybear
