| Need some helpful suggestions for low blood sugar. I have been sick, I'm still not up to par but Glenn found Lily underneath her brothers this morning and said she looked stiff with her teeth showing. I think he and my daughters thot she was dead. He picked her up and she had a seizure. I got some karo syrup in her and I'm sitting here with a glass of karo syrup water and a glass of baby food beef water and feeding her with a glass eyedropper as much as I can get her to take. It looks to me like I can't trust her to remember to eat. This is the 3rd time she's faded. She wanted down and I thot she might have to go potty, then she was playing with her brothers. I weighed her the other day and she's 17 ozs at 10 weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to tempt her to eat more. Looks like I will be spending a lot of time with Lily. I was hoping to sell her, cause she's gonna be too little to breed but if I have to invest so much time in being with her I probably won't be able to let her go. We are in the process of buying a house and have to be signing papers and being present for the inspections and things. I almost can't leave her at home. I worry about her all the time, I want to take her everywhere I go. I hope someone has some suggestions that will help. I will be calling the vet as soon as they open. Sylvia |

| The most important thing to do when a pup have hypoglycemia is after the karo syrop is to give her warm water , place her in a warm blanket until the little one is ok . Food will come a little later . |

| I have her wrapped in a towel up against my chest. About every 10 minutes I give her a dropperful of the beefwater. She doesn't want it but I won't take no for an answer. Sylvia |

| I had a Pomeranian who was Hypoglycemic. Not attacks here and there, always, if he did not eat he would lay stiff, like you said "look dead" liquid out of his mouth and all...it was horrible. He was full grown, weighing 2 lbs. and the vet said that he did not store enough sugar to keep himself going. My vet told me to put two teaspoons of sugar into his water and refresh it at least twice a day. When I did he was fine! If he ever seemed weak to me I would give him a teaspoon of water with a little sugar in it and he would pep right up. It was crazy...he would look stiff & dead, a little sugar water he would be fine within seconds... I only went through the stiff thing two or three times but that was enough! It is so scary... Gazou...the warm water is to help liquidate the Karo Syrup, right?? Great idea!!

| Maybe this will help. I got it here off YT and saved it in my word program, just in case. I can't remember who posted it. Quote:

| For dogs and people with this condition it's best to eat protien. Maybe she will like some cheese and peanut butter. Baby food meats and baby food meat sticks. If I was close to you I'd take her. |

| I kept karo in the water all the time. I also gave mine 1/4 tin of Cesars twice a day. you can also give her scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. Some dogs will eat the food if you put a few pieces on the floor to get them started. |

| Thanks everyone for your help. I copied all your helpful advice. I will keep it on hand. Looks like I might be getting some small ones. The last litter looks like none of them will reach 4#. Joy's Jewelina is one of them and there were 3 girls and one boy in that litter. Then I have Jewel and now Lily. Jewel and Jewelina are Autumn's daughters from different litters. Autumn is Amber's mother and Amber is Lily's mother. I know I've been sick but this constant worry about her is just plain wearing me out. I want to take her to bed with me but she's so small I'm afraid I wouldn't feel her if I rolled over on her. I want to get a little plastic shoe box type of thing to put by my bed so I can hear her and check on her thru the night but I hate to take her away from her brothers. They are so protective of her. It's like they know she's not alright. I took her to the vet but our usual vet had already left so we saw his "partner" I guess you'd call her. She may be doing her intership or something. Anyways they said she looks good but that they were recommending that we take her to the ER vet. We just signed papers on this house and don't have the money to spend on an overnight stay with the ER vet. She said all they would do is monitor her blood sugar and give her what she needed or a shot if her sugar was too high. I told her about our situation and she frowned but said we could do it but it would be harder for us to gage how she was feeling cause the ER vet would draw blood. Hmmm. The vet said she's not dehydrated and she looks good. It cost us almost $50 just to learn that much from a regular vet. I fixed dinner and gave her little bites of the meat. It's the first thing I KNOW for a fact that she's eaten today. I told Glenn if she will eat that, I will cook for her everyday until she's better. She was out prowling the floor and playing gently with her mom. The boys were in the xpen so they couldn't rowdy her up. I didn't give her enough to fill her little tummy, I didn't want her to gulp it and then throw it up. We have a piece of the meat from dinner left and I will feed her some every couple of hours and see how she tollerates it. She's back in bed and sleeping with her brothers now. She seems to be feeling better. Sylvia |

| Awww, you're such a great Mom! Lily just needs more hands on attention I guess, til she gets some more meat on her bones. That formula posted is the one that I posted about when I first got here, it saved Luna's life. I had to force feed her once or twice with it, after that she gobbled it up It does not cause loose stools at all, contrary to what one would thing, considering that there's milk (half and half) in it. It's a good balance of protein and carbs to keep their blood sugar stable. The babyfood meat water you've been giving is good, but she needs some carbs too. Also letting her play too much can deplete her blood sugar so quickly. I know it's hard, but it's best to only let her have short play periods until she shows signs that she's improving with eating on her own. Here's the link to the original post I wrote about our experience with hypoglycemia. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58036 I hope that Lily gets better, and you too!

| One suggestion if you don't mind. In your original post you mentioned Lily having a seizure and then said you were feeding her with a "glass" eyedropper. I would use a plastic one with this pup just in case she seizes while feeding. The last thing you need is a baby with glass in her mouth and digestive tract. Good luck with Lily. Wish there was a way we could help you with pup sitting.

Thank you so much for that information. Lily is doing better but I'm still so worried about her. She feels so skinny and light compared to her brothers. Does this formula fatten them up a little bit? Do you still give Luna some at bedtime? If not how long did you do it? Sylvia | |
