| I'm sorry about your puppy. This has been discussed in the past on YT. Whether you decide to keep the puppy or not, the breeder should pay for the operation - if you do decide to keep it. You might want to read through one of the previous threads we've had: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=406019

| spoke with the breeder I just spoke with the breeder and she doesn't want me to do anything about it she said it should heal on it's own and I should wait 6 months that the anesthesia is worse than the hernia. She said she would only pay for it to be fixed @ her vet and as for the ear infection she said just to get a 10 day supply of amoxacillion (not sure on the spelling) and that would clear it up. |

| I think I would tell her that she is NOT a vet and you want her to pay for the surgery. Why shouldn't you be able to use your vet. I mean if you were to have a car accident your insurance still has to pay regardless of where the car is fixed (here in TX anyway). I'm sorry your baby is sick

| Using her vet The reason she want's to use her vet is he only charges $15.00 to fix this and my vet charges $65.00 I know that's a big price difference but I don't know her vet and I've never had a problem with him. I live about 100 miles away from her I don't think I should have to drive that far to use her vet. This is just so upsetting I don't want this baby to die. When my son had a hernia like this his doctor didn't say O it may heal on it's own they fixed it. Maybe It worries me so much because he had one too. I just don't know. |

| I've has pups in the past with hernias and the Vet. never operated. He elected to wait and see it they healed on their own, and all of them did. As for the ear infection, well the breeder is right there. Amoxicillion is the desired med. for that and is given for 10 days to two weeks. So, the only thing that I question is........will she pay for the surgery if it does need it in a few months, or is she going to say the time has expired on the guarentee? |

| OMG...ok, no, you should be able to use your vet of choice and she should have to pay for this. She is no vet, as stated above, so you should take the advice of your vet and do what he recommends. Maybe get a second opinion but I wouldn't take the advice of this breeder! You should read over your contract...and if you have a 5 day health guarantee, could that be why she wants you to wait 6 months and "it will just clear up on its own" Sounds fishy to me...... I'm sorry about your baby though....keep us posted.

| my vet would charge over 50% lower than most vets here in town for anything. It's a 30 min. drive but I feel it is worth it. They are the nicest people and have never had any probelms getting in to see the doc. But in ur circumstance, thats a big drive. I would call her again and see if there is something else you guys can settle on. Keep us updated.

| Good luck getting the breeder to help pay where you want to go. Piper was sick when we got her. It cost me over $300 to get her better. The breeder did pay $100 of it. After that she said that her vet checked Piper before being shipped & she was fine. She was far from being fine. We are now dealing with a possible shunt, tests for that have cost over $500, we'll find out more next month. Some breeders, not all, guarantee the health of a pup until it comes time to pay. I just don't recommend that breeder if anyone asks where I got her. Hope your baby gets better soon.

| When we brought Vinnie home 3 days before Christmas he too had an ear infection, the vet attributed it to the fact that the breeder gave him a bath and probably was not very careful about the ears, he gave us a wash for his ears and medicated drops, which worked very well. With proper meds it should clear up and be fine, maybe your breeder gave your dog a bath as well? I have no advice on the hernia, i'm very sorry, I hope all is well! |

| "Update" Took my to the vet she wanted me to use today The last time I talked to the breeder she said I could take her to a vet that her friend used and he was only 30 mins away so I took her to him this morning and he said she had ear mites and gave me some med. for that and said that the hernia would never heal itself that I could reduce it by pushing it back in and if she started crying alot to bring her back and we could do the surgery but that if we can wait till I get her spayed then he could fix it then and she would only have to go under once instead of twice. So for now it's a wait and see. I have also emailed the breeder to get her to agree to pay for the hernia part of the surgery when we have it done. Thanks for all your comment & help I will be spending alot of time here! |
