| My 11 week yorkie is dry heeving but not throwing up!! HELP! Can someone help me...the vets are closed right now... My yorkie is eating fine, drinking water fine, pooping fine but a few hours ago, starting dry heeving..like he's about to throw up but nothing comes out. I don't know if he ate something off the floor and it's kinda stuck in his throat but I'm really worried. He's doing it more often now like a lil old grandpa. Any advice???!?! |

| is he heavying or hacking?? would you say it is like he has something stuck in his throat that he can't get out?? if that is the case he might have kennel cough.. we just had that but if nothing is coming up... then i wouldn't worry about it yet... how often does he do it?? has it stopped?? |

| Nothing is coming up....it seems like he is trying to throw something up like something is caught up in his throat. He does the gagging motion and then nothing comes up and then he's fine for a bit until he does it again. I almost want him to throw up so it comes out. |

| is he making a coughing sound??? Layla JUST did this all last week.. i too thought she was trying to throw something up.. like she had swallowed a string and needed to cough it up... the day she started she did it about 5 times... and then it stopped.. the next day it started again in the afternoon and we were up ALL night with her coughing ... well gaging is a better way to discribe it.. we brought her to the vet the next day and she had kennel cough.. i think she will be fine tonight.. she might be up at night making that noise.. i would just check on her after she makes the noise to make sure she hasn't actually gotten sick.. the first night with layla was a long one.. she would have fits of hacking every hour... let me know if that is what it is sounding like... if it is bring her in tomorrow... poor thing.. thati s young to have kennel cough.. but it is SO common.. |

| I'd keep her close tonight and if it's continues I'd take her to the vet. I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially that young.

| oh no....thats what it sounds like!! more like a gagging than a coughing! Like he has a piece of string or hair or carpet piece. He's been getting all his recommended shots...aren't the shots suppose to prevent this?? |

| ah... no... sadly the kennel cough vaccine is only 50% effective because kennel cough is like the cold.. there are SO many varieties.. you can't protect against them all.. and based on that i will not be getting layla the vaccine.. because she reacts so poorly to them and in the end could get it anyways! however when you go the vet tomorrow if it is kennel cough he will just give you anitbiotics to make sure it doesn't spread and become pneumonia (sp?) since kennel cough is a virus.. not much can be done and you could just let it run its course.. but in a pup that young i would NOT do that! has your pup been in contact with any other dogs lately that yuo don't know?? The groomers or a dog park??? they are very common areas to pick it up!! but hang in there... been there. and made it through let me know what the vet says tho! |

| Unfortunately, all my dogs have been vaccinated for Kennel Cough and all six of them had it a few months ago. Harley had it the worst though. He was behaving the exact way you're describing and on top of that he had a yucky mucus like substance in his poop. Have you done a throat sweep? To feel if there really is something back there caught up in his throat? Personally, I would go ahead and take him to the E-Vet especially since he is so young. Please keep us updated.
