Buster's been coughing a lot lately... but... Okay so appx 2 weeks ago I took 3 month old Buster to the vet because he was sneezing a lot, turns out he had a upper respiratory infection so the doctor put him on clavamox. Hes been on it since, and overall it seems like his health is improving. His sneezing has slowed down, and his nose is no longer clogged up. Hes eating better, and is more active. And the past few days, Buster went back to eating the dry food on his own. (We were feeding him the A/D prescription food through a seringe) However, the past 3-4 days hes been coughing. And doing some kind of pre-cough thing, where it sounds as if he is trying to gather and spit up flem of some sort. Hes been doing that a lot and just now, as I am typing this thread, he just coughed up some flem looking clear stuff. Its not throw up for sure, just looks and seems to be he is coughing up flem. I am just wondering, if this is normal behavior. Hes been improving in many ways, but this cough is giving me second thoughts. Any imput would be appreciated.

Here is a video I just took, so you guys/gals can see exactly what I am talking about. He does this before actually coughing, and hes spit up some flem 3 times already. I am thinking its sort of a good thing because hes coughing out the infection. But you all may know better then me, please let me know! Oh and one last question, would it be okay to give him some Childrens Pedia Care to supress the cough? Keep it mind, he is on Clavamox right now. Video: PLEASE CLICK HERE!! And 1 picture of the flem he coughed up

Hey!! We are going through the same thing with Zoie. She had bronchitis and was on clavamox for two weeks.. and she has that same exact cough. You have to just tough it out for those two weeks, use a humidifyer at night... My vet told me it will go away slowly.. which it did with Zoie. Took at least two weeks. But now she's starting to do it again. Her energy level is normal and eating normal. But shes backing to coughing. I called my vet, and she said if her energy level is normal then it should just go away on it's own. So we are hoping that will happen. Im not sure about the pedi care though?? I want to give zoie something too, but don't know what will help her?

How is Buster? Is he still coughing? If he is, make sure you keep giving Buster the Clavamox. Also, if it hasn't been done yet, make sure you have an x-ray taken of him. DO NOT let him have a tracheal wash. I went through the same exact thing exact thing with my 7-month old Leo. Unfortunately, I let a specialist in NYC (that my original vet referred me to) perform a tracheal wash, which involves putting the dog out and sticking a tube down their throat into their lungs. Saline (i.e. salt water) is injected into the lungs and then sucked back out. The liquid is then sent to a lab to be analyzed so they can supposedly determine the type of bacterial infection that the dog has. My Leo died two weeks ago from complications from the tracheal wash. The specialist already had a plan of antibiotics for Leo for the following month. However, she wanted to do the wash and we said yes. Just keep giving him antibiotics, put a humidifier near his cage (or wherever he sleeps). Also, talk to your vet about the cough medicine before you give him any. I've actually heard that you can be dealing with the cough on and off for at least 6 months or more. There's no need to perform such an invasive procedure when you can keep on giving him antibiotics. I've also heard that there is a form of steroid that a vet can prescribe to help with the cough. And if the Clavamox isn't working (basically it's like strong cough syrup), you'll want to talk to your vet about stronger antibiotics in combination with the steroid. Some of this information we just found out about in the last week or so. I really hope this helps.

| Leo's Mom I,m so sorry for your lost. We never know what the out come will be. We try to do the right thing and we put our babies in the hands of the people that we some what trust. It makes my very scared just to have shots done on my 3. If they ever( the vets) want to do any thing else from now on I will look into it. I know you had no idea this would happen and I'm very sad for your lost. I just lost my Zeus to kidney disease in feb, I know your pain.
