Default ?'s about Rebel being neutered Tues.

I'm taking Rebel to the vet Tuesday morning to be neutered. He's nearly 6 months old and the vet says he's ready.

I'm using a different vet now from the one who spayed Lucy, and he believes in letting them come home the same day as long as they're doing well which means I'll be dropping him off at 9 am and picking him up at 5:00.

Is there anything special I need to know about having him come home that night? Anything I need to have on hand, etc.

He weighs right at 3 lbs.

poor little man... it's tough brining them home .. layla came home... i slept on the couch and was up every hour to see if she had to pee... she was so out of it she coudlnt' tell me she had to go out and wasn't able to stand on her own... get a onsie to keep him from chewing the stiches over night... and maybe get some wet food.. layla was still so drugged she coudlnt' chew her food.. so the wet food was great... make sure you get the warning signs from your vet to look for in case something in wrong. but i am SURE he will do great.. and you will feel bettter having him home!

My 4 yr old, 5lb Rocky was just neutered last month. He did real well. I bought him a can of food to eat for a couple of days. It's easy on his belly. He was kind of slow for a couple of days but no sign of pain. He was bruised along his penis and lower abdomen for the rest of the week. His incision healed well and the stitches fell out. I went out the first night and bought an e-collar. He kept wanting to lick. He only wore it through the evening and part of the night. I like the onsie idea from Marcerella02. He'll be fine.

I used a onesie with Lucy when she was spayed, but I didn't think about it with Rebel. I'll have to look for one tonight when I get off work.

What kind of canned food do ya'll recommend? I've always fed my 2 dry.

I only give them Science Diet Adult Turkey or Puppy Chicken along with their daily Canidae that's always down. They seem to digest it well after surgery. They like it. I have bought some other brands and they're either runny or pasty or have too high a blood content and that will just make them vomit or have loose stools. My vet advises to let them have water only after they get home and then a little food before bed. He might not want to eat until the day after.

I used the onies for Peanut and made some chicken and rice for him to eat. The vet said not to feed him that night but he was straving. I gave him only a little at a time and he did great. He was really good when he came home, not too doped up. Good luck to your little one.

My little girl, Cricket, was just spayed on the 29th of Jan. Her vet let her go home on the same day too. She got her first bath since the surgery today. I
was surprised because I had read on YT how many dogs were back to normal very quickly... but it took Cricket a good 48 hours....she didn't even touch food for the first 24. I had a little "recovery area" set up on the bed w/ a heating pad turned on low and her blanket on top of that. She slept there on & off for the first day...she couldn't even use her little doggie ramp. She would whimper and I would let her down to get her water and go potty. She was really out of it. I hate to say this but on day 2, I used her sleepiness as an opportunity to gently comb out some little knots on her legs ....she slept right through!!!! She hates being combed and brushed...
I'm sure everything will go fine for your little guy!
Good Luck
