| 25 Days After Willow's Surgery And I Can't Get Her To Eat On Her Own - HELP! HELP! It has been 25 days since Willow had surgery to put a plate and pins in to repair her broken leg . . . and I still can't get her to eat on her own. When she first came home from the hospital I had to hand feed her to get her to eat anything . . . and I am still having to hand feed her. She has always been a good little eater for me and I free feed her and she nibbles on her kibble all day long . . . but now she is just leaving it in her little case that she is stuck in for 6 weeks and in order for me to get her to eat . . . I have to hand feed her. I am so nervous that she will get sick if she doesn't eat, so I have been hand feeding her every four hours just so she has a little food in her tummy. What is going on? Why won't she eat on her own anymore. It is like she is holding out until I feed her myself. The other day she threw up yellow bile because her tummy was empty . . . so now I have really been making sure I hand feed her every four hours. What should I do? Will she ever eat on her own again? Please Help us.

| I have never experienced what you are going through but I do have a spoiled little Yorkie girl who doesn't like her routine changed. Maybe little Willow is just upset by everything that's happened and wants you with her as much as possible and the hand feeding provides just a little more "together" time? I wish I had a solution for you, I know how Mom's worry!! Just know we are thinking about you both and hope things will be better soon. Please keep us updated.

| I have had experiance with this and still am. I have a little guy that broke his neck back in July he had surgery to correct the break on August 2, and when he came home I had to force feed him with a syringe. He went from a syringe to a baby spoon. He is now almost 7 months out from surgery and he will eat his treats on his own, but when it comes to meal time he will only eat off the spoon. I have tried to free fed like I did before, but he will not even look at the food as a matter of fact he will take his back legs(they work great his fronts not so much) and kick the bowl away. I was told not to free feed after surgery because of the break his weight needs to be watched so he doesn't gain to much. This little problem that you have is what I have and at this point I have just learned to live with it. I feed him 3 to 4 times a day and I give him a few little treats. I will put them beside him and when he wants them he will eat them, that way I know his belly isn't empty all the time. I also feed him right before bed around 10 to 10:30 at night this way he does not get the bile throw up in the morning. I know I haven't been of any help here, but I wanted to let you know you are not the only one out here with this problem. I have been told to just keep the food infront of him he will eat it sooner or later, but with these little ones it is to scary to do that. Where they can go hyperglicemic(sp?) so easily. Tough love is what they all say. I have also been told well if you know mom will feed it to you why make the effort to do it on your own. I can understand that, but still I need to know he has something in his belly. Okay so we spoil our furbabies.lol I wish you luck of braking her of this. When you know the secret please let me know. And if I find out any way to get Babybear to eat on his own I will let you know.

| I just want to let you know just in case this doesn't work with the chicken and rice or the hamburg and rice. Babybear would not touch it. I have made it a number of times and he will not eat it at all. So if you can get your baby to eat it please let me know what you did, maybe I did it wrong. I tried cooking the rice and chicken/beef separately and then I boiled the chicken/beef together he would take neither of them. Please let me know if you can get her to eat this.

| I think she likes the attention. Plus being in a crate all day she is not getting an exercise. Is it necessary to keep them caged for 6 weeks. Was she spayed or did she have other surgery. I have never caged a dog after spaying. |

| Hi Peggi, How is your Willow doing? Has the feeding issue gotten better. I have been thinking about her, haven't seen any updates lately. Hope your little girl is on the mend and able to get back to normal routine soon. Stay warm!!!

| Good Morning Mary Kay: How sweet of you to be concerned about us. Willow is doing so much better these days. We are exactly 37 days past surgery and although she is still stuck in the small carrier for another three weeks . . . she has been eating a little better for me and acting more like her old self. I take her out a lot and let her sit in a small round bed with sides all around it and eat her little flossies and she usually eats her breakfast and dinner in there too. She loves the extra attention and I finally figured out that she probably wasn't eating on her own because she didn't have much of an appetite just laying around in that case. I have been trying to stimulate her appetite by letting her chew on her flossies and carrying her around the house with me and trying to get her excited about things again and make it seem like her old normal routine without her getting down on all fours and using that leg. We have a darling little baby play pen set up with all her stuff animals and toys lining the sides and if we get the all clear from the ortopedic surgeon this coming Friday . . . she will be able to spend some time in there. I have started putting her in there with me standing there to watch . . . and she loves it . . . but she tries to jump around and the doctor does not want that at all. So for now she has to stay in what I call her suitcase. Thank you again so much for your concern and warm wishes. It sure is cold here in Apple Valley this morning . . . hope you and your baby are staying warm. Love Pegi and Willow
