| A Fearless Little Dog i just joined today because of friend of mine is on here. i have one yorkie and he is 11 years old. i got him for Christmas when I was 12. he's such a huge part of this family. in 2005, he had back surgery, his liver and kidneys failed, and he had gall stones. after 7 days on IV, his liver was fine and his kidneys were fine. they couldn't detect anything. we had the gall stones removed and his back surgery left him with little feeling in his back legs. on new years he started acting funny. he wouldn't get up so much. and we thought that it was just gas. but soon he just started laying down. he couldn't get up. and so today my mom took him to the vet. and she said that he might have had a possible stroke because he can't use his left leg. or he might have another back injury that is preventing him from using it. so that's three legs down. well, needless to say...i don't know what to do. we are supposed to sit down as a family and decide whether we should keep him like this or let him go. and i don't want to let my dog go. the doctor said that his heart is stronger than we could believe. but we don't have the kind of money to get all these operations done to help him. i mean, if it was another back surgery, its already been so much. and he's such a fighter. he's not weak. he refuses to let things get him down. and we won't cry in front of him because he understands. he doesn't like anyone to look at his back legs because he doesn't like for people to feel badly for him. i know that it is selfish to say that i want to keep him but if there is any possibility that he can do better because of this....i would do anything. i would do anything to help him. when my grandmother was sick he would encourage her to walk outside. he wouldn't walk if she wouldn't. he just means so much to this family and it has definitely been hard seeing him not have full use of his legs because he's just so strong. and he was always so active. i just wanted to know what i could possibly do to help him. whether its operations or anything that can help him. he's a good dog. he is the best damn thing that there is out there and that is worth fighting for. when you look at him...he's got too much left in him for anyone to give up on him. |

| He looks like such a sweetie The only advice that I can give is to get a second opinion if you can. There may be some things that a vet can try that aren't too expensive or invasive. You're both in my prayers!

| What a sweetheart you have. A seconed opinion may just give you another answer. I would just let him life his little life from day to day if he were not in any pain. Prayer's coming your way for both of you. Carol & Buddy |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and I would also say get a second opinion and if he is not in pain maybe you could hold off on making a decision to see how he does.

| We can all understand your not wanting to give up. No one wants to say goodbye to their baby! I would also suggest a second opinion and also, if he cannot use his back legs, they can be fitted on a little cart that their front legs are free to walk, but their back legs are in the cart and the wheels move when the puppy walks with his front legs. Best wishes to you! I hope he improves greatly and can live for a long time!

| Hi first of all welcome to Yorkie Talk. I am so sorry to hear about you sweet little guy. I can give you some help. I myself have a Yorkie that broke his neck back in July. He has some use of his back legs but his front legs do not work well at all. I do all his therapy and I have a cart for him. I work with my little guy a lot. He has range of motion therapy. IF you ask your vet your vet can teach you this. I also do water therapy on him in the bath tub. If you could you can fill the tub and get in there with him It is instinct for them to use all four legs in the water. This in turn with stregthn his muscles. If they are paralyzed or not they will still use all four paws. I have learned a great deal with Babybear's injuries and if you would like any help please let me know I will do anything to help you keep your baby. IF you would like you can PM me and I can talk more in depth with you about this. My thoughts and Prayers are going out to you and your family. Good luck with your decision. Just remember there are things that can help.

| Hi Anchichi. I'm sorry to hear about your little guy. My first and oldest Yorkie is now ten years old. My guy has a lot of health issues that seem to be getting worse and hubby and I just talked about this the other night. The best advice I can give you is from my heart. He's 11 and you gave him a great life. If he's suffering sometimes it's best to let him go. We're not quite there yet, but when the time comes I don't think at 10 or 11 that I'd put him through a lot. Although Yorkies can live upward of 16 years, you want them to have quality of life too. I hope that things work out and that your guy takes a turn around. And by the way welcome to YT. I'm a fairly new member too Elaine |

| thank you everyone, thank you so much for all of your prayers and such. i didn't know that there were such caring individuals and i truly thank you. my prayers are of course with sampson and any other little one who might be sick or injured. sampson is very strong. this morning when my parents left for work, he was in his basket standing up on his front legs trying to get out...as he normally has before. my parents told me last night that they don't think its fair to put him through another operation at the age of 11, but if there was any possibility that he might pull through that they would try. but because he is how he is, he tried to stand up and act as if he was ok. he kept refusing to lay down. i know that he doesn't want to be put down. they said that he didn't have any feeling in his front left leg and i have seen him several times today use it...he's just a miracle...which is the only way i know how to describe him. |

| Gosh he is such a CUTIE!!! Poor little guy! I know its a really hard decision to have to make! I do not envy you at all on this one! I once had a dog that was overall very healthy, but was getting up there in age and arthritis took a toll on her body. Her legs gave out on her and she could not walk at all anymore. We (my parents really) had to make the VERY difficult decision to have her put down. It was hard, but it was even harder to watch her just lay there. One day taking a walk, she collapsed, my dad had to come pick her up and put her in the car and drive her home. We kept her 2 more days but she never got up. She could no longer walk, and although she seemed happy and not in pain, it was heartbreaking! We gave her many many good years and loved her very very much! That was the nicest way to let her leave this world, the kindest, most humane thing to do for her after all the love she gave to us! Take care sweetie! |

| if he isnt in pain then he could use a cart to help him get about , there are sites on the internet that will make one for your dog. if its a stroke dogs normaly get over them the first time and normaly get back to normal within weeks. if he has use of his front legs dogs will learn to crawl to get about and can get on quite well doing this but you have to make sure they dont get sore. id say take him to another vet have an xray done or scan to see whats going on, if it doesnt show anything wrong then its prob a stroke and he with a bit of luck will be fine in a few weeks. im keeping my fingers crossed for you both. i have two 13 year old yorkies so the oldies are close to my heart.
