| Please, pray for my lil boo in the hospital... PLEASE, PRAY FOR BOO! Hi everyone. i am sad to hear the stories on the posting and pray for ALL the little dogs to get healthy as soon as possible. i can say that i understand how they feel....here is my story: i got my little girl last thursday and she was so alert and playful following me around where ever i go and so friendly towards other people. than yesterday, i brought my lil boo home from my bf's house last night around 9 pm and she seemed fine. i gave her a shower and blow dried her and let her sleep with me in the blanket. she was shivering for a bit i thought maybe she was cold from the shower. i turned the heater on and put her in the blankets and the shivering resided. for some reason she seemed a bit tired and not as active as she usually is. i gave her some nutri cal and i put her down in her den after a few hours of sleep and she seem fine and checked on her at 8 am and she seem fine but not as active as before still. checked on her at around 10 because i heard scratching noises and thought maybe she pooped. when i saw her she was lying there limp! i seriously thought i was going to get a heart attack because i couldn't breath! i tried giving her nutri cal and she tried so hard to lick it and i try to feed her but she was so out of it she fell on her plate. i picked her up and i know she is trying hard to respond but she just couldnt. she can barely keep her lil eyes open. i was so scared and rushed her to the pet hospital. they wanted $500 deposit before starting anything on her! that really pissed me off! i was so in a rush i was in my pjs and i left my wallet at home. i begged them to start treatment immediately but they said they cant until the deposit but luckily my mom was home and called and asked her for the credit card #. that was the dummest policy! a little life can be lost because of money? shouldnt every second count in an emergency? i know if i was a vet id start treatment immediately even if i got to pay out of my pocket to save a life! they put her on iv fluids and said she had hypoglycemia. within 5 hours she was finally more alert and doctor said she ate a bowl of food! poor little girl had to get her iv through the vein on her neck cause they couldnt find one on her tiny legs. doctor told me later they did stool specimen and she might have worms and that might have triggered her hypoglycemia. even though they refused treatment for my lil girl until i put the deposit i was still thankful for what they did for my Boo. i am pretty sure she got the worms when she was at the pet store because i am pretty sure my other dogs dont have them and she had no contact with my other dogs due to her tiny size. doctor said she okay and i might be able take her home in the morning tomorrow. breeder told me feed her twice a day but from now on im leaving her food out 24/7! please, pray for her to have a healthy normal life. she means the world to me.she is everything i wanted in a dog. that incident taught me a life lesson to appreciate life more and how fragile life is. how someone can be okay this minute and be sick the next... |

| I'm praying for your baby. I can't believe her breeder said to feed her only twice a day now, was she getting only 1 meal before? My dogs are all small, 3-5.4 lbs. and all but one are past a year. They get fed 3-4x's a day but small meals and the 10 month old is still on free feeding . He lost 8 ozs. after a stomach virus so we leave kibble down 24/7 plus his 4 meals. Yes, I don't worry about fine tuning housebreaking until they're older. The 5.4 ib. is finally housebroken at 2.10 years. It happens eventually but their well being comes first. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | What a scare and I would have been freaking out too if I was holding a limp dog and no one would act - But you acted quickly and really saved her life....Maybe the doctors did the work - but you got her right in where she needed to be.... I'm so glad she's ok and hope she doesn't have any more episodes... and FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ?? holy cow - my Emergency Vet asks for 200 up front...it's no wonder so many people put their pets to sleep.... that's very high. |

| Wow, how scary for you and Little Boo!! That is awful about the vet!! I hope you change, that doesn't sound like they care too much, except about money! Hope Boo is back to her old playful self really soon!!!

| I've never had to pay a fee "up front" at our emergency Vet. It costs a minimum of $75 no matter what is done, but of course, it always costs more. I would be freaking out. So glad your baby is doing better.

| OMG Poor you and Boo Our ER vet is the same way, really. BUT they would have begun basic treatment before talking about money. They do an exam, then complete an estimate of treatment costs. They will save the animal's life first, though I'm so sorry that y'all had to go through that.

| I am so sorry you had this experience ,and little Boo has such a scary time. Be sure to keep honey or karo syrup handy, just place a few drops on her tongue and she should respond quickly. Make sure you let her eat or give her the supplement before putting her to bed. Personally, I free feed. Most yorkies wont ever eat. She should outgrow this situation! In the meantime keep an eye out for her being listless or slow. Best wishes to you and little Boo.

| Thanks For Everyones Prayers. Boo Is Doing Better. THE VET SAID I CAN PICK UP BOO TODAY AND I PICKED HER UP AT 12 30 THIS AFTERNOON. POOR LITTLE GIRL HAD THE HAIR ON HER LEG AND NECK SHAVED OFF DUE TO HER IV AND HAD TO WEAR BANDAGE AROUND HER NECK AND MADE HER LOOK LIKE SHE IS WEARING A NECK BRACE! SHE IS ACTIVE AND WAS EATING REALLY WELL AND PLAYING WITH MY FRIENDS YORKIE. I BOUGHT KARO SYRUP AND CHEERIOS BECAUSE I CANT IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. HER FOOD IS OUT 24/7 NOW. THE VET BILL CAME OUT TO $590BUT IS WORTH IT BECAUSE SHE SEEMS TO BE FINE AND HERSELF AGAIN. THANKS EVERYONE! I WILL KEEP EVEYRONE POSTED ON HOW SHE IS DOING. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Glad she is better. Cali has similar epsiodes and I had to feed her every 2-3 hours for months. I would make sure with the free feeding that she is eating frequently enough. Cali had 3 episodes, so keep a close eye on her for any symptoms.

| Our ER vet is the same way - money up front or you can leave. Very sad! I think you should have food down for her at ALL times! I tell people that get my pups that food and water should be availabe ALWAYS! I would give nutri-cal daily for a while too. Good luck with her and I am so happy to hear that she is doing better!

| I am so glad that your little Boo is feeling better. Wow! what a terrible exeprience with your vet.... You might want to offer her a small amount of honey or nutrical a couple times a day just for insurance. This is how my vet works.... The practice has 6 vets -- all of them are splendiferous! I love them all. When I have an emergency I call the regular #, the emergency service picks up and sends my phone # to the vet on call who returns my call within just a few minutes. If I just need a bit of advice or reassurance, there is NEVER a charge. If I need to meet them at the clinic, they are always there first, have the lights on and after treating my poor sick kid they send me home with a hug. The last visit they never even sent me a bill -- but quietly asked if I wanted to "pay some on my balance" when I took the pups in for shots (the last emergency visit was for Chattie - she had the beginnings of mastitis and that whole emergency visit charge including meds and bloodwork was right at $200). |
