Poor Lacey :( :( :( We just got back from the ER vet... she said that Lacey had a seizure, and that Lacey has pneumonia. If that wasn't bad enough, she also believes that Lacey has congenital neurological issues, hence the reason why she doesn't play, eat, drink, etc.... We are going to take her to the regular vet tomorrow, and then see about taking her back to the pet store... They should give us a refund, right?

These are the things that give pet stores a bad rap, and for good reasons. I am really sorry about your baby...I don't know what kind guarantees pet stores have, most breeders have at least a one year one (but that is breeders) they should have something (in my opinion!) Let me know if you need help in finding your next HEALTHY Yorkie pup if you do get a refund.

I am so sorry about poor little Lacey. It's a shame that she has been through so much in her short little life. I am so happy that she has you and your wife to care for her because where she came from was no where for a sweet little yorkie to be. Personally, I would never buy a puppy from a pet shop. I went to the mall the other day and walked by the pet store and all the little puppies looked so sad and not very healthy. The pet store should give you your money back . . . but what about poor little Lacey? You don't plan on giving her back to them . . . do you? Lacey will never have a good life if that happens. Here is a thought. I live in Minnesota and we have what is called a "Lemon Law" which applies to vehicles and pets. If a pet is sold to you that turns out to have health defects . . . the seller is required to give you back a full refund and you are not entitled to give them back the animal. It happened to a friend of mine once with a persian cat. We knew if she gave it back to the breeder . . . it would only be killed. So she got her money back . . . spent a lot of money on vet bills . . . and two years later that persian cat is absolutely beautiful. Please find it in your heart to care for baby Lacey as long as you can. Hopefully she will make it through these horrible health problems . . . and if these problems are more than little Lacey's fragile body can handle . . . she will be very lucky to have found you and your wife to give her so much more love than she would have ever got in a pet store. Good luck to you all and I will continue to pray that Little Lacey will heal from this. Willow sends lots of hugs and kisses for baby Lacey too.

anyone know of a good breeder in the Raleigh, North Carolina area? The contract says we get credit towards a "puppy of our choice" and that is exactly what we will take them for.

Something tells me that when they say "A credit towards the puppy of your choice" they mean from "THEIR" pet store. I'm not sure about how the law works in NC but I do know that in New Jersey they have what they call a Lemon Law with regards to a dog bought at a pet store etc. and it reads that the "Pet Store" has to pay for ALL vet bills up to the purchase price of the dog. Meaning you could keep Lacey and still get your $$ back. I know that it's a big nut to chew keeping a pup so sick, but what about atleast bringing her to a Yorkie Rescue rather then back to the pet store. Not trying to make you feel guilty but the pups sold in pet stores are puppymill dogs and the store probably paid next to nothing for her, meaning she isn't worth the money to them to try and get better and they'll just dispose of her. The poor thing has gone through so much and it would be a sin for her to indure more. Again, not trying to make you feel guilty but please think about it before you bring her back there. Call your better business beaur and see what the NC state law is regarding a sick dog bought from a Pet Store. Maybe both you and Lacey can win on this one. Best of luck to both of you. Elaine

O.K. I just re-read your last post. I'm a little confused. You seem to be from Ohio but looking for a breeder in NC? Did you get the pup in Ohio or NC? Whichever, then look to see what the state law is in Ohio if this is where she was purchased. Elaine

I am in Ohio and we are moving to NC in a couple weeks. There is no puppy lemon law in Ohio, at least none that we have found.

Mcgrether. I did some research online and it seems that they are trying to pass a puppy lemon law in your state of Ohio, but you are correct it has not yet been passed (That I see anyway). What a sin. You may have to chalk this up to a very expensive lesson learned and just eat the money you spent. You could try to file a claim in small claims court. It certainly woulnd't hurt to try anyway. Just a little back ground. Pennsylvania is one of the biggest puppymill states. Surprisingly, the Amish are the biggest puppymillers. In Pennsylvania dog auctions are banned. Many of the PA Amish travel across the border to Ohio and sell their "Stock" at a very well known flea market located in Holmes county. They have monthy dog auctions that a lot of the puppymill rescues raise funds to go to in which they buy the neediest of the dogs. Their "Stock" consist of old dogs, mothers with babies, preg. dogs, puppies, and yes sick dogs and very old dogs. Pet stores buy their "Stock" from puppymills. These dogs almost always have some kind of problems. Most have genetic defects and this is due to the millers breeding not for quality but for quanity. They sell their pups very cheap to the stores and therefore it's easier and cheaper for a pet store to dispose of the dog and offer you a new one, rather then pay the vet bills. Again, I'm not trying to make you feel guilty. Many are not educated on where these pet store pups come from and unknowningly buy from these places. My reccomendation to you is to take it as an expensive lesson learned, look here for a good Yorkie rescue who will have the experience and rescources to allow her to life a decent life, and look for a reputable breeder or even go to Petfinder.com and possibly find a young Yorkie rescue. Since there are no puppy laws in the state of Ohio, your $$ is gone. To exchange her for another pup that may also have problems down the line is only going to cause a vicious cycle. Just my .02. I really hope that Lacey gets the life she deserves and I truly am sorry for you and you wife as well. It's very heartbreaking. Elaine (mom to three Yorkie rescues and one Morkie) here are some links to places to look www.puppymillrescue.com another is petfinder.com and of course I'm sure others can direct you to good breeders and reputable Yorkie rescues.

Lacey.... is no more. After a bought of seizures, she had all but shut down... so we made the tough choice to put her to sleep. The vet said that there was nothing that could be done for her, in the state she was in. On the positive note, we were able to get the money back from the pet store. RIP Lacey Grether... RIP.

| I am so sorry for your loss. At least Lacey had a little time with a family that loved her. Bless you for giving her that time. Rest Peacefully, Little One and when you get to the Rainbow Bridge, run your little legs off and play forever with all the other little furbabies that have traveled there before you.

Mcgrether. I'm sorry for your family and what you went through. It's no consolation but atleast now Lacey's at peace. It's far better to put her down to let her suffer. If you need help in finding a reputable Yorkie breeder, once you're settle in NC, I know that there are many on the board here that can put you in the right direction. Please, also consider rescue as there are many many great dogs some even pups that in most cases to no fault of their own end up in rescue. A great time to look is around February or March. You'll find a lot of Christmas pups turned in. People impulse buy for Christmas presents and find that either they are more then they bargained for or that the person they thought would want a pup really didn't. Again, Petfinder.com is a great place to look. If you type in Yorkies and your zip it will pull up what is available in your area. The great part about getting a rescue is that the donation (Usually around $400) is far less then you'd pay if bought through a breeder and the fee includeds the shots, vetting and spay/neuter. Another great place to try is puppymillrescue.com. They get quite a few pups in. I've seen a few pure bred Yorkies come in, some only 16 weeks old and others under under one or two years of age. And, sometimes you are better off getting a pup a year old or so because for sure you know how big he or she will be, their temperment and health issue etc. I got my Morkie (Maltes/Yorkie) through a classified. The woman bought her for $1800 and decided she didn't want her. She was nine months when I got her and she was already spayed and had her shots. I got her for $900 which saved me $400 for her spay and also she was a lot less then I would have paid through a breeder and the best part is we knew what she'd be because at nine months she pretty much stopped growing and her temperment was present. She's a wonderful girl and we were lucky to get her. I wish you and your family the best in the coming year and I hope you find your Yorkie. They are great great dogs. Elaine
