| HELP - Tink's brother is so sick and our vet is closed!!! You may remember Indy had a grand mal seizure last week and injured his back. He is 17 years old. This afternoon and evening he is shaking and whimpering. Today he can barely walk so I'm carrying him when he needs to move. I gave him his Deracoxib today ( 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet) but that's not enough for his pain. I called the vet but they are closed and the emergency vet hospital is not answering. He hurts so much, he tried to bite my finger when I stroked his face and when he realized he was biting down, he whimpered and licked my hand. He is incontinent from the back injury but keeps trying to get up to pee. When he moves, he just yelps and tries to bite his leg. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to help him 'til I can get him to the vet? I think he may have to go across the bridge pretty soon, but it makes me crazy to watch him in so much pain. I just want to crush all my own pain meds in some pudding for him and just wait with him 'til he goes home. What shall I do? |

| Help is coming! I finally got hold of my friend who is a vet. She was out to dinner but is coming over now to see what she can do for him. She said she will probably give him an injection and then put him on a morphine drip to get his pain under control. She has known him all his life so I know she'll help us. |

| All the vets here refer to the emergency animal hospital when they are closed. So, if the hospital doesn't answer, it can be tough going. Usually our vet picks up his private line because he only gives it out to his oldest or multi clients but he is out of town. If I hadn't reached Debbie, I was going to drive to Wisconsin Dells where the vet is that rescued Tink. My friend Debbie is a vet and is here now. Indy is sleeping (kind of) right now, but still crying. She gave him some liquid morphine to calm him. She examined him after he was calm and said she thinks it is time to let him go. She doesn't believe the pain can be controlled well enough for him to have any kind of life without morphine. So, I'm trying to make that decision right now. Tink has lain beside Indy all day which is a miracle. She hasn't jumped on him once or tried to bite his ears or bothered him at all except to give him kisses when he cries. The only time she has moved is to go potty. That is amazing for a 15 wk old baby! Now that Deb is here, she has gotten up and gone to her crate and is laying with her nose sticking out the door. She did not like the smell of the alcohol. Darling baby. I'm going now to spend some time with Indy and talk to Deb some more and then say goodbye to my precious boy. I guess God thinks I've had him long enough and wants him back. Wish he didnt have to suffer so much though. I'll post tomorrow. Thank you for the thoughts. |

| My heart goes out to you, Indy and your family. Being able to make the right decision for our babies and not for ourselves is one of the most difficult things we ever have to do. Indy is so lucky to have had such a loving and caring Mommy for 17 years. Whatever happens, I will keep you and Indy in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all. (((HUGS)))

| I am so terribly sorry. I know your heart is breaking right now and this decision is tearing you apart. It has to take an amazing amount of love to choose the best for Indy but remember, he has trusted and loved you for a lot of years and he trusts you now. I will be praying for you that God will grant you peace and comfort.
