| My yorkie baby has a high temperature My 15 week yorkie baby Poppy has had a high temperature since monday and she is not eating very well, and I am really worried. She had a hernia operation 10 days ago and had her stitches out to-day, and the wound has healed very well. She had two injection on monday and to-day and is on anti-biotic for the next 7 days. She also has her back teeth coming though. Does anyone know if a puppy who is teething has a raised temperature? My vet is mystified what is wrong with her. I would be grateful for any advise. |

| My suggestion....Find another vet that's not mystified! She should not have a high fever. Poor baby!

| She had an anti-biotic injection that lasted 2 days on monday. A different anti-biotic injection to-day plus she has anti-biotic tablets to take for the next 7 days. My vet is also a yorkie owner and very caring. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | poor baby - to be honest - a high temp would scare me - What else does your vet think it could be ? I don't recall any change in temperature on my 2 when their teeth were coming in |

| I am not a vet, of course, but the fact that her temperature is elevated indicates that her body is resisting, which is totally normal after surgery and stitches. The fact that she is on antibiotics means that she will not develop an infection, which can cause the body temperature to be raised. She should not be happy and playful after a serious surgery, I don't think. So, to me, her condition sounds normal especially coupled with the teething. Sometimes teething in human kids can cause elevated temperatures. At the same time, she needs to be forcefully fed. Maybe something that she likes. I would give her cottage cheese with her food because antibiotics hurt the culture. So, cottage cheese can replenish it. If the temperature is critically elevated, then wrap her and bring her to the vet on emergency without discussing it on the phone. He will not send you home, and you will feel better. |

| How high is elevated temp? I would take her in, she is very young and it is a long weekend. You can also see if your vet thinks it would help to give her baby tylenol? But if she is not eating, she needs to be seen. 15 week old puppies cannot afford to lose weight or get dehydrated. I hope she is feeling better soon, my dog never had a temp when teething.

| My puppies temperature is now back to normal, the anti-biotics must have worked. Her four back teeth are trying to come though, but she is eating a lot more to-day, she is selecting biscuits to crunch. Also the wound from the hernia operation is healing well. |
