Sneezing and occsional sniffiling - no runny nose. Allergies? My 13 week old male yorkie has been with us for 6 days now. Ever since he got here, he has been sneezing a few times an hour. He doesn't have a runny nose, and it doesn't keep him up at night. From reading the forum, it sounds like he might have allergies? We do live in Phoenix and the air quality is horrible with the pollution and everything in bloom. It appears from searching that we should give him benadryl? How much for a 2lb puppy? Thanks!

I am not sure of what it is but when mine got a cold and went to the vet and he was older than 13 weeks old, the vet told me that they do not develop allergies nor asthma at such a tender age. I can't remember like when they will start developing allergies but certainly not at 13 weeks old.Have you brought your puppy to the vet? You should bring them to the vet for a general checkup once you got them. Don't give any medicine to your pup without consulting your vet first. Try shining the torch in to puppy's nose to see if there is anything that you can see obstructing his air ways. And sometimes they do sneeze when dust gets in to their little nose; shouldn't be too often though.

The little guy (asleep in my lap now) was in the vet on Monday, and checked out normal. He has started sneezing a lot more since then. His nose is clear. I guess we should probably bring him in?

Hi! Congrats on your new puppy!!! It's always a good idea to get things checked out with these little ones. Since you were just there, you could probably just call and ask them if you should bring him or not. He may just be adjusting to the environment in your home, different smells and such. Is he from your area? I know when I travelled to New Mexico from Florida, the dry air played havoc on my sinuses and skin, it was awful! Maybe a humidifier in the room where he stays would help? Keep us posted, please? This is such a wonderful place, you'll find so much valuable insight and advice here

I forgot to tell you NOT to give Benadryl, if the dry air is what's bothering him, that will dry him up even more. It's better not to give them human medicine unless the vet says to. He's just too tiny.

Thank you for your help! He is fine now. He beat whatever he had (if he had a cold.) I think his little nose was probably still a little sensitive to his new surroundings. Here is a picture of our little Cooper:
