Default Teddy was dropped...help

I was at my bf's house with my pup Teddy and his sister, his neice and her friend got home as we were about to leave to go to my house. We all left together because his sister wanted us to go with her a couple blocks away to buy something. When my bf and I were done and ready to head the other direction to my house my bf's neice had a fit and wanted to stay with Teddy. She was carrying him in my dog carrier, she's only 5 and I didn't want her to carry it anyway in fear that she would drop it but I was watching her the whole time and if I didn't let her of course she would cry. So my bf was trying to take the carrier away from her so we could leave and she had a tantrum and would not stop crying. Her mom just looks and doesn't even say anything to make her stop or anything. My bf thinks she's wrong by not punishing her and because she's so spoiled so he tries to discipline her himself but she doesn't listen because he has no support from his sister, her mom. So we ended up having to take her to my house with us. So we got here and my mom, my stepdad and his friend were all in the living room. I let Teddy out and went to my room with my bf and his neice. His neice opened the door and Teddy went running to the living room and of course she went after him. I'm in my room and all of a sudden I hear Teddy crying really loudly and he wouldn't stop. I go running and my mom picks him up and he's still crying. At this point I don't know what happened or what to do and I start crying 'cause I'm so scared. Teddy is my first yorkie and he's only 2 lbs and a half or so and I heard any little thing can cause him danger. It turns out my stepdad's friend was holding him and he jumped out his hands. Mind you he's over 6 feet tall. Teddy finally stopped crying but I didn't because I don't know if a drop like that can effect him in the long run. He was acting a little lethargic afterwards, like his eyes he kept closing them and he yawned like twice, now I think he's back to normal but since he's so small do you think he'll be okay? I just don't want to have to find out later on that he broke something or something wrong and I have to pay tons in vet bills. I don't have much money right now. If I had to of course I will pay anything I could for him but has this happened to anyone? Srry this is so long, it just happened a couple minutes ago and I didn't know what to do. Also what do you think I should do with my bf's neice? If she doesn't get her way she has a fit ALL the time and her mom doesn't care

I definitely know how this feels!!! It's the WORST feeling in the world! And that crying that they do is like nothing I've never heard. When we first got Ferdinand, a friend of my boyfriend's friend was over and holding him. She went to put him down but didn't have a good hold on him at all (pissed me off... I mean, he's a puppy, hold him tighter!!). Anyway, sure enough he jumped and landed on his head on our tile floor. He was screaming and ran away. I chased after him and just held him. I felt so helpless. As far as I know he's fine now... but maybe someone else may be able to shed some light on what might happen if they're dropped like that.

Anyway, needless to say I don't let many people hold him anymore. I felt so bad for him when it happened!

It is very scary and they are very wiggly. Most of them have probably been dropped at least once and stepped on a dozen times, and they do fine. But there are a few that do get hurt.

I'd just watch him for tonight, and if he starts acting strange take him to an emergency vet. Chances are he will be fine .

My Ty is 11weeks and is 2pounds 7oz and he has jumped out of my arms, rolled off the couch and he is fine, we let him up on the couch only when we are up there and he likes to think he is a full grown rot and acts like he is gonna jump off but he doesnt. I dont know much about dogs but just from having Ty for 3weeks he seems pretty tuff. And as for your bf niece, thats proably a whole nother board....good luck with puppy and kids.....

Piccolo is a jumper and he jumped a few time from high places. I don't think he has any fear of hights so I keep him on a leash when we are sitting on a sofa.
And for the little girl issue - don't get involved. Let the family deal with it.

Did you check him all over for fractures or so? Does he limp or tries not to use one leg for example? Try massaging him all over and see if he hurts anywhere. I hope he's fine, Pepper got dropped at the vet's office (really.. not me, a lady offered to hold him when I was filling in the chart and he slipped out of his blanket..), he was 10 weeks and 1.5 lbs but he was fine, didn't even cry ( ). He fell off a step (the bottom stair) a little later trying to climb up stairs and cried then, oh my, that cry is worst. He was limping a little so I did rush him to the vet but he turned out to be ok... I really watch him closely now, no going down the stairs, no kids holding him and so, maybe a little overreacting but I have a reason... He's bigger now (3.5 lbs) and way sturdier, I hope he'll keep growing. Just watch your pup closely for a while. Hope all is well and pls update.

I would rush him to the vet ASAP . When Royce was 5 mnts old he jumped from my arms and fell i called the vet right away he told me to give him food to see if he eats or not to give him water and to keep him under observation for the whole night (it was 8pm when it happened ) hesaid if he does it and drink and plays and acts normal just keep him under obesevation for 24 hrs and bring him in the morning and if he is not acting normal during the night to rush him to the emergency ....thank god he was normal the whole nignt .i took him the following day to the vet for a full exam and he vet had to admit that Royce was very lucky he didnt suffer any damage .pls take him to the vet or you might regret it later

I would not allow anyone to pick him up..keep him crated and by your side when you are away from home...and if the child tried to pick him up..tell her NO and take the dog away....I have never had any problem telling my children or anyone else"s NO!!.
Infact... I have overheard my own children many times telling their friends.."if you hurt one of my mom's dogs, she will hurt you"...I guess they believed it....they always asked and sat on the floor to pet them.
Unfortunately, if it was his head that was hit, it can cause epilepsy in later years...best wishes

He seems perfectly fine and is his happy, normal self, he is still going to the vet on Tuesday just to make sure. I really hope he does not get epilepsy, unfortunetly I didn't see when he fell so I don't know if he hit his head, I hope not. Now I know not to let any child hold him, it's just too dangerous.

Glad he is feeling better and still keep your vet appt.

When Mojo was younger, he fell twice and both times, we rushed him to the vet (that day, right then). I am a paranoid freak (I am sure the vet loves to see me coming...$$$$)...anyway, both times, they did partial x-rays, checked vitals and eyes, etc. Gave us some medicine for pain or for shock. In both cases, he was completely fine. BUT, you never know, so I always recommend taking them to the vet as soon as you can!

Oh hun I hope your baby will be ok. Im sure he will. Something like that happened to louie when he was about 5 months old. I brought him to my sisters for a get together because I did not want to leave him home alone and thought he would be safer with me. I stayed in the same room with him and watched him the entire time and the next thing I knew hew was walking with his back leg held up. He would NOT put it down. Took him to the vet and they could not find anything wrong and said maybe it was bruised but he didnt cry or anything even when you touched it. I still dont know what happened but I now I dont take him over anyones house anymore. I got him a playmate (Bella) and now hes stays safely home in his cage with her. Good luck hun....and on the spoiled child, Im sorry but if the mom does not do anything to correct her and she is in your presence crying and wanting to do something that involves you or your pup or anything that concerns you I think that it is perfectly ok for you to correct her and tell her like it is. If the mom gets mad just say, well Im sorry but that is the way it is and if it was my own child I would not allow them to do that so I will not allow yours to.

LOL I like that. My grandkids know too, you don't mess with grammy's dogs.

I would never allow someone elses kid to hold it, especially if she were throwing a tantrum. And I tell the mother so also.

You are in a sticky situation with the niece. But that is YOUR dog. I wouldn't let her hold him if she can't follow your rules. If Mommy gets angry, too bad. Mommy should grow up too. My neice and nephew aren't allowed to carry mine around. They can only hold them in their lap on the couch or play with them in the floor. That isn't too much to ask when you are talking about the safety of your dog. AND...you don't want him to grow up and snap at other kids because of one brat.

With the neice, I've said it before, I'll say it again, I don't let kids hold our dogs. They can pet them, but thats as far as it goes. Accidents do happen its your job to prevent them. And since her Mother offers no help or support, I wouldn't take Teddy if she and the child were there.

And the fall, when Melvin was 4 or 5 months old, maybe less he took a really bad fall. Daddy had taken him to look at a truck and put Melvin in the back. Melvin got up on the ledge and jumped. For whatever reason, he put all his little legs out like he could fly. Thus landing him smack on his belly. I was pissed, to say the least. Of course I wasn't there either, or else I would have been really freaking out. It was a full size truck so it was pretty up there too. He was a little bruised and sore, but just fine none the less. You have to watch them 24/7, they do crazy things if you don't. We learned our lesson that day. And FYI, Melvin still does the "I'm flying!" look when you put him in the air, I have no idea why, but it looks funny.

Yesterday I was in my bfs house and no one else was home but his siter and neice came later with her 2 cousins. Of course they came running hen they saw Teddy and his neice was ready to pick him up but I put my foot down and told her no that she could only pet him. She asked why and kept saying put him on the floors (we were on the couch) and I said no because poor Teddy would step up on his two legs when he was on the floor so I can grab him, I guess the kids running scared him. Well she finally understood and listened and when he cousins went near him she told them " you can only pet him softly not hard because he's a baby". I was like yes finally lol so I think she is understanding now to be careful and she knows not to pick him up anymore. I can't not take him when they are there because I basically live there also and Teddy is always with me, I don't leave him alone in my moms house except when I am at school. I go back and forth with my mom and his house, it's like 10 blocks away, really close. So yea I'm glad now she is listening, thanks guys
